The University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus is seeking an experienced human resource management professional to support the campus’ mission to be a leader in applied research, teaching and training focused on agriculture, horticulture, veterinary technology and the environment. Located in Ridgetown, Ontario midway between London and Windsor, the Campus is home to 650 full-time students and has approximately 150 full-time employees including faculty, research associates, instructors, clerical and technical staff plus numerous contractual staff and student employees. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the effective and consistent administration and interpretation of University policies and procedures, practices, guidelines and collective agreements for Ridgetown Campus staff. The position will act as a primary contact and provide information regarding performance management, strategic planning and support to administration, compensation, and benefits administration.

Reporting to the Director, the HR Generalist will support the Director, faculty and staff by providing thoughtful leadership, advice, coaching and routine interpretation about University policies, collective agreements and provincial and federal government legislation. In partnership with central Human Resources, the incumbent will also provide training to staff and managers on staff relations as necessary and is responsible for handling conflict resolution and providing advice to supervising managers. Further, the incumbent will assist with recommending various solutions to resolve various HR issues or concerns on Campus by triaging situations, grievances, and concerns while liaising with central HR. The HR Generalist will be the first point of contact for employees at Ridgetown Campus, providing information in response to questions on employee relation issues such as annual performance appraisals, job evaluations and classification, conflict resolution, attendance management, payroll policies, accommodations and return to work protocols.

Requirements for the position include: an undergraduate degree majoring in Human Resources Management preferably coupled with a recognized certificate as a Human Resource Professional (e.g. CHRP), or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in providing human resources support in a leadership capacity including recruitment, performance management, interpreting and applying policies, collective agreements.  Demonstrated experience providing information to managers and staff is necessary, along with exercising tact, diplomacy, sound judgement and maintaining effective working relationships in a respectful workplace. Training and presentation skills are an asset.  Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to problem-solve and mediate, adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines are required. Advanced knowledge of various software programs is required including but not limited to spreadsheets, word processing and database management. An understanding of the university environment and culture is an asset, as is an appreciation of the Ontario agri-food sector and how research, education and training are conducted.

This appointment is regularly performed on-campus but will be initially fulfilled both remotely (off-campus) and on-campus until the University resumes its regular operations
