Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure practices and procedures comply with the various legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Human Rights Code
- Advise managers and employees on the Human Resources Policy Manual and employment legislation interpretation
- Direct the recruitment process for hourly permanent and temporary hires
- Prepare and present employment offers to successful permanent and temporary hourly candidates
- Conduct orientation for new hourly hires, including training on company policies and health & safety
- Complete training needs reviews for new hires, transfers or promotions
- Respond to various employee inquiries in a timely manner with confidentiality and professionalism
- Maintain employee personnel and training files
- Maintain employee management systems including Synerion, HR database, and various spreadsheets
- Prepare and document employee attendance, counseling and discipline notifications
- Prepare letters for employees, including transfers, memos, and letters of employment
- Process benefit enrolments, changes, and terminations of coverage
- Participate on various committees
- Manage the Employee fund
- Help organize and participate in social events, such as Retirement parties, Company picnic, Adult and Family Christmas parties, dinners and lunches
- Complete various weekly, monthly, and yearly reports
- Track HR-related invoices
- Ensure all employee documents are available and accessible, including training forms, benefit packages, and wellness material
- Support the department projects relating to the business plan or other areas, as required
- Communicate with both internal and external personnel, including managers, employees, adjudicators, training organizations, benefit providers, Service Canada and social events planners
- Provide backup and support to the Human Resources Manager, Human Resources Generalist and Occupational Health & Safety Specialist
- Perform other duties as required and as established in Mott policies
This is a contract position for 14 months.
A successful candidate would have these characteristics:
- Degree, diploma or Certificate in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Labour Relations or equivalent
- 1 year of experience in an HR role
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Attention to detail is critical
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills
- Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to be proactive, multi-task and forward think
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to prioritize
- Has a “can-do” attitude
