Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. The Senior Inclusion Advisor provides expertise, leadership, support and guidance in the day-to day operations and planning for Inclusion, which includes designing, developing and implementing strategies to improve diversity, and inclusion mandate across the organization.

What will I be doing?

  • Develops, project manages and/or facilitate presentations, training and information sessions on equity, diversion and inclusion, performance/KPI metrics, dashboards and templates that are designed to improve organizational awareness around inclusion, diversity and equity (e.g. unconscious bias awareness, allyship/bystander, cultural fluency, anti-racism, gender expression & identity, human rights training etc.).
  • Participates and Drives continuous improvement in Employee Resource Groups (ERGs by identifying and conducting research on best practices, – building mechanism to understand needs and establishing areas of focus.
  • Reviews existing ERGs governance framework/protocols and develops reports on membership mandates of groups etc. and provides on-going governance support.
  • Drives and develops initiatives that support inclusion in the workplace (e.g. employee resource groups, inclusion council, celebrations, religious accommodation, days of significance, specialized/targeted internships, cultural census, mentoring vs sponsorship programs and gender balance etc.). Through communication, partnerships, project management, research and event planning.
  • Develops and presents impactful communications to support Inclusion initiatives and strategies, such as gender balance, anti-racism, inclusion etc.,
  • Participates in the facilitation of diversity and inclusion training e.g. unconscious bias, cultural
  • Partners with HR Business professionals, HR Services, HR Centres of Excellence and employee resource groups, inclusion council, internal resource committees, etc. to guide the development, implementation and follow-up of inclusive and equitable programs to ensure promotion of Metrolinx’s vision, mission, values, strategic priorities, and organizational objectives.
  • Builds strong working relationships with Corporate Communications, Legal and HR Services to deliver communications and awareness messaging, as required for program delivery.
  • Effectively communicates inclusion, diversity and equity concepts to a range of audiences.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the operation of a large, complex, matrixed organization.
  • Monitors progress on goals and projects to ensure that program objectives are delivered on time and that anticipated business results are achieved.
  • Conducts impact analysis  by using quantifiable census data and KPIs to identify potential problems and/or opportunities, aligning the performance measures with the initiative and desired outcomes ensuring the monitoring of the key performance indicators; tracks KPIs in business plans following up and providing alerts when critical milestones have been missed.
  • Effective project management of milestones, requirements, challenges and accomplishments.
  • Demonstrates business acumen, coupled with knowledge of HR principles, practices and legislation as pertains to inclusion, diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace.
  • Understands cultural nuances, market trends and key indicators that impact and advance an inclusive organizational culture.
  • Monitors progress to ensure that Inclusion program objectives are delivered on time and within budget, (if applicable) and that anticipated business results are achieved.
  • Experience in influencing business leaders towards cultural change and negotiating the introduction of new concepts.
  • Expertise in consulting, facilitating and coaching leaders at all levels.

What skills & qualifications do I need?

  • Completion of a degree in Human Resources or Business Administration or a related discipline - or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience monitoring and executing diversity and inclusion Initiatives.
  • Certifications or Designations: Canadian Human Resources Professional (CHRP) certification is an asset; additional courses or certifications, in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and/or  ODL (e.g. Leadership or Diversity and Inclusion Certificate,) is an asset.
  • Experience in HR and Inclusion principles within large organizations in order to design and recommend strategies, interventions and best practices.
  • Expertise in Inclusion practices, principles, and methodologies in order to understand how people adapt to cultural changes and related processes.
  • Skilled in training, development & facilitation principles for adult learners to develop diversity/inclusion sessions.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve goals and objectives within specified time-frames in a fast-paced environment; proven ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional team atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management/planning to participate and lead in cross-organizational project teams representing inclusion area of expertise; ability to create project plans/project timelines and track towards milestones.
  • Organizational skills to support multiple priorities and ability to navigate through ambiguity.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and make presentations and support manager in briefings, etc.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Office) and other applications to create, identify, benchmark and communicate trends and provide status reports.
