Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategy & HR, the Director, Culture & Learning is an integral member of a small, but mighty Human Resources team in our Canadian operations. They will drive people and organizational development, EDI, and social responsibility initiatives within the organization, partner on talent acquisition, and contribute to the efficient day-to-day operations of the team by successfully accomplishing the following responsibilities:

  • Champion formal and informal development programs for the Canadian team, including performance management systems and tools, individual development plans, a mentorship program, and self-driven tools such as LinkedIn Learning. The Director will work with the global SME Learning & Development team and outside vendors to identify and implement learning/training programs. Ability to lead/facilitate training would be considered an asset
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement SME Canada’s EDI strategies and tactics, and act as subject matter expert, change agent, influencer, thought leader, key enabler and champion of our commitment to fostering a workplace culture and environment that is inclusive, diverse, and equitable
  • Spearhead social responsibility and charitable initiatives, including leadership of the social committee, any other employee resource groups, internship and other community outreach programs
  • Partner with the rest of the HR team to develop talent acquisition, retention and management strategies, and generally contribute to the smooth operation of the department
  • Foster an environment of open communication and feedback that builds employee trust


  • A passion for making a difference
  • Professional HR designation (CHRP or CHRL)
  • 10+ years experience
  • Relevant post-secondary education (e.g., Adult Learning & Staff Training, Instructional Design)
  • Have achieved or working towards a CTDP designation
  • A subject matter expert and respected leader in the practice of equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated knowledge that usually comes with 3-5 years’ experience with adult learning principles, exposure to course design and eLearning development software
  • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, multitask, and inspire while working under stressful and demanding situations
  • The use of discretion and the maintenance of high levels of confidentiality are absolutely required
