Job Description

CTVRC/EC is seeking a full time permanent Human Resources Manager to join our clinic’s management team! Reporting to the Practice Owners, you will be accountable for independently managing and delivering on the full scope employee experience, while ensuring that business/operational needs are being met.  The successful candidate will be expected to provide HR advice, guidance and leadership to both the practice owners and all staff.  Some of the responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to full cycle recruitment, developing and implementing training and development plans, managing labour relations such as complaints & investigations, and stewardship of health, safety and wellness programs.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to…

  • Providing direct HR leadership and guidance to clinical staff, including Animal Care Assistants, Registered Veterinary Technicians, and Customer Service Representatives, as well as providing HR guidance and advise to the Practice Owners
  • Serve as the primary contact for all staff feedback, complaints and inquiries; record and investigate and adjudicate on said investigations as appropriate
  • Research and develop employee engagement and retention strategies, implementing value add programs and practices
  • Develop and administer the health and safety program of the clinic, in accordance with legislation and best practice standards
  • Develop, implement and maintain all HR policies, procedures and practices for the effective people management of the clinic
  • Develop, administer and evaluate annual performance review cycle and related merit increase plan
  • Serve as the clinics benefits administrator, executing enrollments, terminations and changes on the benefits providers system; participate in benefit contract discussions as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Education in a relevant field, such as business administration or human resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience; University Degree in Industrial Relations preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in Human Resources Management providing effective employee & labour relations advice and guidance 
  • Previous experience as a formal people manager required 
  • Knowledge of 24h medical environment preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing HR processes and programs, demonstrating a big picture attitude & understanding the correlation between all internal processes
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence with a high degree of compassion, sympathy and patience
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with an eye for process improvement and development
  • Demonstrated customer service experience skills
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and mediation skills
  • Demonstrated communications skills both written and verbal

Job Summary

Reporting to the Practice Owners, the Human Resources Manager is accountable for managing the full HR function of the practice.  They are responsible for managing the employee experience at the practice while ensuring that business/operational needs are being met.  They will be expected to provide appropriate advice, guidance and leadership with respect to the HR service, policies, process, programs and projects that support the employee life cycle, developing and implementing creative solutions aligned with the practices mission, vision and strategic direction.

The incumbent will be accountable for managing HR functions including, but not limited to full cycle recruitment, developing and implementing effective training and development programs, researching and implementing best practice employee engagement programs, completing detailed workforce planning and analytics, managing labour relations with staff such as complaints and investigations, participating on the Joint Health and Safety Committee and having ownership over the heath and safety of the practice, and developing and managing the compensation and annual performance review process.  Included in managing these processes, the incumbent is accountable for building, implementing and reviewing the systems, policies and procedures and practices of each of these functions.

  • Develop, implement, manage and review the full cycle talent acquisition process, including preparing all related documentation e.g. interview guides, reference consent forms
  • Effectively source top talent using various attraction methods e.g. attending job fairs, utilizing appropriate job boards
  • Prepare and deliver screening interviews, prepare and conduct in person and/or virtual interviews, prepare and deliver post-interview testing such as administering job shadowing tests, drug calculation test and others
