HR Support Services is made up of a team of HR professionals and innovators who contribute to the achievement of Hamilton Health Sciences’ (HHS) operational and strategic priorities. HR Support Services is organized by streams (HR Payroll, HR Reporting, Compensation & Benefits, and HR & Payroll Solutions) to provide a wide range of HR services and programs for the HHS community. The HR Support Services model and overall vision emphasizes a client focus, collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager – HR Reporting, Compensation & Benefits the HR Compensation & Benefits Analyst assists in the program aspects of compensation and benefits such as pay equity, annual market reviews, executive compensation, job evaluations, renewals, plan administration, implementations/projects, policy development, support for systems changes, and communications.
The HR Compensation & Benefits Analyst provides support services to a wide variety of stakeholders at multiple levels throughout the organization, acting as the key point of contact for escalations for compensation and benefits issues. This involves working closely with benefit carriers and the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).
The ideal candidate is currently working in a similar role with in-depth compensation and benefits knowledge and experience ideally with an Oracle human capital management system. Advanced working knowledge of excel is required. Specific Accountabilities
• Assists in the analysis and review of current compensation programs and processes, and the development of new programs by researching market trends, analyzing competitive compensation survey data, conducting plan modeling, and making recommendations for program changes.
• Conducts internal surveys and participates in external surveys.
• Researches, analyzes, synthesizes and presents data and reports as assigned.
• Supports the transition of HR strategy and policies into practical and effective compensation and benefit solutions including communications, system changes and working directly with carriers.
• Supports the ongoing development and enhancement of HR systems, by participating as a subject matter expert, developing specification documents, and testing changes.
• Identifies data integrity issues that appear through compensation and benefits analysis, recommending solutions where issues arise.
• Provides support for training, policy, communications, bargaining, committees and continuous improvement initiatives related to compensation and benefits.
• Supports the administration of HHS benefits plans, ensuring legislative and contract requirements are adhered to.
• Liaises with group insurance carriers, pension providers, consultants, and regulatory bodies on compensation and benefits issues as required.
• Regularly reviews and updates compensation and benefits documentation to ensure information is clear, concise, and up to date.
• Leads the pension contribution recalculations with HOOPP.
• Participates in job evaluations, including recommending the appropriate salary grade for non-union, management, and union jobs, maintaining job codes in the HHS job code system, responding to requests for reconsideration of the classification decision, and ensuring documentation is maintained for all classification decisions.
• Applies pay equity knowledge and participates in reviews to ensure that HHS continues to maintain pay equity for all employee groups.
• Investigates, actions and solutions all escalated compensation and benefits issues originating from multiple levels across the organization.
• Develops presentation materials and supporting documentation for information sessions/programs.
• Delivers educational presentations on various compensation and benefits topics.
• Participates in organization wide training, development, education, and communications projects and initiatives as needed.

Schedule Work Hours:

Monday to Friday, with flexibility to meet organizational requirements

This position is temporary until October 25, 2021. 

Qualifications: 

1. Undergraduate Degree (Human Resources, Business, or other relevant).
2. Human Resources Management Graduate Certificate.
3. Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation preferred.
4. 3-5 years compensation, benefits, and pension administration experience in a large, complex, union/non union environment.
5. Advanced knowledge and skill in human resources information systems (Oracle Cloud and/or PeopleSoft).
6. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint.
7. Strong knowledge of and ability to apply compensation and benefits related legislation (i.e. Employment Standards Act, Pay Equity Act, Broader Public Sector Executive Compensation Program, Pension Benefits Act, etc.).
8. Strong knowledge of compensation and benefits processes, with some understanding of fundamentals and best practices.
9. Ability to apply job evaluation techniques and make recommendations for union and non union roles.
10. Strong mathematical skills, with ability to apply and interpret statistical concepts.
11. Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to deliver high quality and accurate work under tight timelines.
12. Ability to work independently, organize and establish priorities and ensure project and task deadlines are met.
13. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a high performance environment.
14. Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to make conclusions and recommendations.
