Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Operations, the Director of Human Resources is a key member of the Senior Management Team and leads CBU in promoting excellence and innovation in the delivery of human resource services for the University. As the Director of Human Resources, you will lead and oversee human resource planning and strategy development; employee and faculty relations; policy development and implementation; training, professional development, and performance management; recruitment, retention and succession planning initiatives; salary, benefit and pension administration, payroll services, compliance reporting; and occupational health and safety.  You will play a lead role in supporting the negotiation of collective agreements and in ensuring effective ongoing communications with union representatives. Accountable for ensuring that HR strategy and service is aligned with the University’s strategic objectives and supportive of the academic mission, you will work in collaborative partnership with academic and administrative leaders across the University. You will lead a talented and committed team of professionals who support CBU in all aspects of human resources management.

As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned human resources leader with proven leadership experience and understanding of the broad range of HR functions from within a complex, unionized environment. You are conversant in contemporary HR practices and trends and have led the introduction of new policies, systems and processes to support recruitment, engagement, development and performance of talent. An exceptional communicator and highly effective negotiator, you are able to navigate collective agreement negotiations and ongoing labour relations matters with the tact and strategy needed to achieve positive outcomes.  You are a valued strategic advisor, known for your honest and reasoned approach, and your ability to successfully build cooperative relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and areas. You have the credentials, reputation, experience and confidence to work seamlessly with the University’s senior leaders to strategically improve the human resource function within the university.
