Reporting to the AVP and Chief Human Resources Officer, the Director, HR Operations and Systems will provide oversight and leadership to the HR service support model, payroll and workforce administration, and systems solutions.  Human Resources at McMaster has begun an exercise of renewal and realignment of its administrative processes, technologies and structures to ensure a well integrated service delivery model.  This senior leadership role is critical to the planning and delivery of integrated workforce administrative and technology solutions, and an employee-focused service model.  Collaborative partnerships with finance and technology partners, as well as administrative leaders from across the University are essential to success in this role.  

In a collaborative team environment, which embraces the values of teamwork, respect, accountability, inclusiveness and service, the Director will: 

  • Play a key leadership role in the transformation of pan-institutional HR payroll and workforce administration processes 
  • Leverage available and emerging technologies, to enable Human Resources to effectively deliver transactional HR services within McMaster’s complex decentralized administrative infrastructure
  • Review, redesign and implement an efficient and effective employee-centric HR Operations model
  • Be accountable for the University’s payroll (Faculty, Staff and Affiliates) 
  • Oversees financial, tax and remittance functions for McMaster’s payroll, benefits and pension plans
  • Operational administration of lifecycle, benefits and administrative programs for McMaster’s more than 14,000 employees, across 20 employee groups, in addition to benefits administration support for more than 2500 retirees.
  • Work with the HR Project Management Office to deliver time sensitive projects as defined within the HR Review project (https://hr-review.mcmaster.ca/ ) 
  • Advance the development of HR analytics and reporting capability and support 
  • Lead a team of approximately 30 HR professionals through 3 direct reports

This role requires a senior level professional that has demonstrated the ability to balance their technical knowledge with the strong ability to build partnerships with clients in support of achieving their goals. Throughout your career you have been recognized as a strategic thinker with the ability to foster and sustain a collaborative culture with a focus on providing comprehensive and integrated coaching and support to employees, HR leads, and University leadership.
