Senior Manager, Human Resources

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides consultation and coaching to people managers concerning all areas of HR including general employment issues, salary administration, termination, performance management, compensation, conflict resolution, recruitment & staffing, job evaluation, interpretation of policies and procedures, and other complex HR issues.
  • Works closely with the Vice President, HR in the development and implementation of key strategic initiatives and programs throughout, including workforce planning and the support of cultural change.
  • Develops recruitment strategies for hiring qualified candidates for each open position through an understanding of the job duties, responsibilities and competencies required by the business and advises management accordingly. Works with Human Resources Generalist to assist with recruitment and selection process as required.
  • Responsible for supporting job design and for the organization’s job evaluation program.
  • Develops and implements manager and employee learning and development programs.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal and Provincial legislation across Canada.
  • Manages areas of risk including termination, accommodation, performance challenges and discipline.
  • Identifies key metrics for evaluation and effective program development.
  • Actively contributes to the improvement of HR processes according to the business needs.
  • Provides direction to the HR Generalist in the effective on-going implementation of key programs including recruitment and retention, health and safety, HR systems and reporting, disability management and return-to-work programs. This involves evaluating programs and other HR issues.
  • Acts as a back-up to the HR Generalist for payroll process and disability management.
  • Works in compliance with the provisions of The Occupational Health & Safety Act in the applicable province of employment and its regulations, and complies with the Foundation’s Health & Safety Policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Staff Management Accountabilities

  • Recruits, engages and retains qualified employees to meet business priorities.
  • Provides support and direction in the development, alignment and accomplishment of objectives through on-going performance feedback, recognition and coaching.
  • Provides a safe and healthy work environment for team members and relevant stakeholders.  Ensures they work in compliance with The Occupational Health & Safety Act in applicable province of employment, its regulations, and the Foundation’s Health & Safety Policy.

 

 

Financial Accountabilities

  • Monitor department adherence to financial policies and controls. Determine expense projections as part of the budgeting and forecasting process.  Authorize expenditures within approved guidelines.  Monitor expenditures against budget and forecast and initiate appropriate remedial activity as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree, coupled with either HR concentration or certificate; 5-7 years of progressive HR generalist/business partner experience and CHRP/CHRL designation
  • Experience managing a small dynamic team.
  • Experience managing staff, Payroll, Benefits and/or Health and Safety would be an asset
  • Proven ability to implement best human resources practices.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills and managing a diverse national client base.
  • Actively contributes to the team spirit and organizational culture.
  • Pragmatic, results-oriented, good judgment.
  • Superior interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to diagnose and correct problems within tight deadlines.
  • Well-developed presentations/facilitation skills
  • Previous working experience with a HR/Payroll system is required. Previous working experience with ADP database is considered a strong asset.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills to facilitate effective working relationships among a wide variety of personnel.
  • Ability to pioneer new territory and comfortable working in an ambiguous environment.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and development of PowerPoint presentations, experience with Microsoft Teams and applications is an asset
  • Previous experience with job evaluation, in particular Hay system of evaluation considered an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for local travel is required.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office environment with occasional requirements to work outside of regular office hours
  • Occasional day/overnight travel

PHYSICAL & MENTAL EFFORT

  • Works under pressure of tight deadlines, with high volume workload, and with multiple demands and changing/overlapping priorities
