As a trusted advisor, the Senior Manager, HR Business Partner will support the Information Technology transformation by developing talent, building a succession pipeline, driving people initiatives, coaching and supporting the development of human capital within our Information Technology division. This position reports directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer at Metrolinx.

What will I be doing?

  • Providing effective human resource advisory services and solutions which address the full suite of HR offerings, including employee/labour relations, strategic talent management, total rewards, health, safety & wellness, and leadership training.
  • Partnering with Executives in Information Technology to deliver IT transformations and organizational design solutions that meet the strategic needs of the business.
  • Identifying and anticipating business requirements and emerging issues/problems through effective needs analysis and problem definition. Developing solutions and strategies which incorporate all relevant areas of HR expertise and supporting processes and tools.
  • Partnering with our Enterprise Centres of Excellence (“ECOE’s”) to provide feedback and insight on the effectiveness of current programs and processes, and the design and development of HR programs, processes, systems and tools.
  • Providing coaching and guidance to the executive business leaders regarding employment issues in such areas as, policy and procedure interpretation/application, dispute resolution, corrective action, leaves of absence, harassment, and terminations
  • Partnering with the executive business leaders to identify and proactively develop talent through formal training, mentoring, coaching, and “stretch” assignments in order to effectively deliver on the business objectives.
  • Working with executives to design and maintain workforce staffing plans which support operational deliverables, strategic investments and targeted development of competencies.
  • Leading routine or as-required reviews, in partnership with executive leadership, overall organizational effectiveness, including considerations like role clarity, span of control, and structure
  • Leading the talent review process for key positions and participate in succession management
  • Overseeing the performance management process, working with executive leadership on their employee reviews and evaluations.
  • Leading large-scale people change management efforts in ensuring new programs, initiatives, systems are adopted and implemented.
  • Overseeing the management of all annual total rewards programs program cycles with business clients.
  • Developing and sustaining strong collaborative relationships with internal HR groups to identify, resolve and coordinate deployment efforts for human resources management programs and initiatives.
  • Establishing communication channels to allow frequent dialogue for imparting information and gathering feedback to/from a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Influencing, coaching, advising, and guiding business (leadership) ownership in relation to a wide range of issues.
  • Delivering informative presentations and reports on key HR policies to educate leaders and staff across the organization.
  • Administering assigned budget components to ensure appropriate expense allocation, cost management, and overall fiscal responsibility.
  • Coaching, guiding and mentoring clients on problem-solving and conflict resolution

What skills & qualifications do I need?

  • Completion of a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years progressive experience as a senior HR Generalist, including a minimum of five (5) years in a leadership role and two (2) years in a high volume/transaction processing environment.  Preference will be given to those with a strong knowledge of technical capabilities required within an Information Technology function.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (“CHRP”) designation is an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant Canadian HR and Employee/Labour relations legislation
  • Experience in the public sector or transportation industry would be assets
  • Problem solving and oral/written/presentation skills to deliver informative presentations and reports to key stakeholders
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite of products
  • Ability to deal with time pressures and conflicting work demands and priorities within the business.
