Human Resources Generalist (14-month contract)

Neelands Group Limited is a family-owned private Canadian company that has been in the refrigeration and HVAC business since 1958. We have a long history of providing comprehensive refrigeration and HVAC design, installation, and service offerings to Supermarkets as well as Commercial and Industrial markets across North America. We are a leader in advanced refrigeration technologies and state of the art products, offering turnkey solutions for new construction, retrofits for existing facilities, system controls, HVAC services, and sustainable energy services.

The Position:

As a member of the Human Resources team, this role will provide professional support to functional areas within the business and the overall Human Resources strategy. Reporting the Senior Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will drive culture while delivering outstanding client service.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead recruitment initiatives by implementing effective recruiting and hiring practices to attract and retain top talent and meet resourcing needs
  • Actively participate and co-facilitate the on-boarding process for new employees
  • Provide counsel by applying knowledge and experience in interpreting HR policies, procedures, and payroll
  • Respond to employee relations issues by conducting investigations where required and recommending solutions
  • Provide guidance and coaching on performance management including developing action plans and progressive discipline strategies
  • Initial point of contact on employment related matters including but not limited to policy compliance, attendance management, WSIB and return to work, conflict resolution and employee life cycle
  • In collaboration with Senior Manager, Human Resources, establish and execute on organizational training needs
  • Initial point of contact for unionized employee group (UA 787) collaborating with union agents to facilitate ongoing relationship and communication
  • Support miscellaneous HR projects and act as back up to other HR team members
  • Perform other duties as required

 

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a Human Resources position, preferably in construction, service or unionized environment
  • CHRP or CHRL designation (completed or currently in progress)
  • Solid working knowledge of Ontario employment and workplace legislation
  • Proficient in MS Office and/or Office 365
  • Knowledge of US Labour legislation is a strong asset

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding and knowledge of Human Resources
  • Strong customer service, time management, organizational, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in team setting
  • Embodies a “can-do attitude” with a “roll up your sleeves” approach
  • Demonstrated ability to act with tact, discretion and in confidential manner as required
  • Hands on HRIS experience; Ceridian Dayforce an asset
  • Self- motivated, innovative, and disciplined with the ability to lead projects to completion
