Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services is a multi-service Indigenous wellbeing agency. We provide a stable foundation for children, youth, and families, through wraparound services that are culturally based, and family focused.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for the development and delivery of Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services training in a culturally intelligent way. The Learning & Development Specialist will develop, track, and facilitate a range of developmental programming to a diverse group, including staff, leadership, and external participants. This position will collaborate with the Organizational Development & Recruitment Coordinator and other members of the Agency. The incumbent will align developmental efforts with the Agency’s Strategic Plan and through an ongoing consultative process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Learning & Development:

  • Assessment of needs, development, scheduling and facilitation of training programs.
  • Develop training curriculum to meet identified training needs incorporating Indigenous culture, values, traditions, and teachings into all programming.
  • Consistently apply the mission, vision and values of the Agency into all learning.
  • Create training resources and participant packages.
  • In collaboration with the Organizational Development and Recruitment Coordinator create outreach systems to distribute and promote scheduled training events / programs.
  • Provide training through a range of facets including in-person, online, virtual, Circle format, etc.
  • Demonstrate effective facilitation of a variety of structured learning activities, including small group work, large group discussions, experiential exercises
  • Creation of videos and other interactive learning material that enhances programming.
  • Recording and creation of digital training sessions.
  • Address ongoing development needs of all employees working within a variety of roles including individualized planning.
  • Perform annual needs & programming assessments.
  • Develop programming that is cyclical and ongoing (i.e. refresher training, released in multiple stages, etc.).
  • Actively collaborate with outside partners when needed to improve the programming offered.
  • Staying abreast of industry changes, trends, techniques, methodologies and standards, including training requirements set forth by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
  • Apply an equitable approach to program development that cultivates an inclusive learning culture.
  • Recommend evidence-based improvements to training processes and develop strategies to address identified areas requiring improvement.
  • Maintain service delivery standards.
  • Ensure ongoing professional development in personal training expertise and in training delivery methods.
  • Proficient at keeping learners focused, on task and within established time frames while remaining responsive to group needs and concerns.
  • Ability to create and maintain a comfortable and respectful participant-focused environment.

Administration and Reporting:

  • Consistent evaluation of programming by actively seeking feedback from program participants and those assisting with programming development.
  • Use of various feedback methods including evaluation forms, participant surveys, focus groups/Sharing Circles, testing, etc.
  • Ensure training sessions are tracked with all relevant data being collected (i.e. attendance sheets, evaluation forms, scheduling details, etc.).
  • Create and analyze data through the development of appropriate tracking methods.
  • Generate reporting (trends, assessments, feedback, etc.) for leadership and presentation to relevant parties.
  • Complete administrative functions and reporting, adhering to Agency policies, procedures, and relevant practices.
  • Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all Agency documents and records.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed work plan of activities.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date, and concise work files.
  • Prepare and deliver summary reports on training activities.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance records and travel expense claims. Work in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and any other relevant legislation.
  • Follow the Agency’s human resources, finance and other policies and procedures in the performance of duties.

Other Duties:

  • Participate in internal or external committees as required or assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Education with a focus on adult education/learning, education, or related field with experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing curriculum and facilitating training to

diverse adult learners.

  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years’ experience in a prevention services, child welfare or Indigenous Well-being role is required.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and Ministry of Community, Children and Social Services, as well as clinical knowledge of social work theories, principles, and practices.
  • Awareness of Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Service programs, services, and membership base.
  • Thorough knowledge of Indigenous culture and values including awareness of the First Nation, Inuit and Métis Communities and Agencies we service.
  • Knowledge of best practices in adult education principles and learning methods.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and values including awareness of the First Nation, Inuit and Métis Communities we service.
  • A solid understanding of and sensitivity to the experiences of First Nations and Indigenous peoples in Canada, and the impact of the legacy of Residential Schools and the Sixties Scoop upon them is essential.

Ability Requirements:

  • Critically think and identify areas of development for the Agency and staff.
  • Ability to create and deliver programming that incorporates an inclusive and wholistic approach.
  • High level of facilitation and presentation skills with a focus on adult learners.
  • Ability to facilitate effectively, utilizing a wide range of methods and not relying on reading directly from a script or slide presentation.
  • Comfortable using training delivery technology and media.
  • Strong ability to apply knowledge of adult learning principles in a culturally sensitive way.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully in any situation, including difficult discussions that may arise.
  • Handles problems in a pro-active manner with a focus on resolution.
  • Proficient writing skills with the ability to draft/edit communications including emails, memorandums, and letters.
  • Task oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Takes initiative in the role utilizing critical thinking to problem solve.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Displays a high-level of emotional intelligence including consistently exhibiting a positive and professional demeanor in all situations.
  • Self-aware and able to adapt and support organizational change.
  • Fluidity in working with staff, senior leadership, Boards of Directors, partner agencies, government bodies and Indigenous organizations.
  • Understanding the importance of maintaining and working within a highly confidential and sensitive environment.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and holidays as required.
  • Provide an acceptable Canadian Police Information Centre Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS).
  • Able to provide a safe vehicle for use on the job, an acceptable Driver’s Abstract, evidence of a valid Ontario Driver’s License and of Personal Liability & Property Damage insurance coverage for at least $2,000,000.00.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • You will be provided a working location within your region by the Organization.

SALARY RANGE

  • $64,840.00 - $78,149.00, depending on qualifications and experience.
