Position:          Manager, Human Resources & Services

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the HR function ensuring policies, procedures and systems are compliant.
  • Design and deliver training programs to the workforce as required based on legislation, best practices and operational needs.  
  • Manage the full cycle recruitment process. This includes working with hiring managers to determine their needs, postings, screening both on the phone and in person, preparing the necessary paperwork and conducting new hire orientation.
  • Coordinate shift replacements and cancellations as required during business hours and afterhours via Company provided cell phone.
  • Manage the accuracy of payroll processing through effective use of the time and attendance system and exporting the hours and payroll related information to the Payroll Administrator.
  • Manage the development of all internal general communications via pay stub distribution of memos, email, posted memo, intranet, and personal letters to applicable staff.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date and organized employee files.
  • Oversee proper execution and management of vacation approvals and tracking as well as utilization throughout the year.
  • Manage the Group Benefits Program.
  • As the Health and Safety Coordinator:
  • Oversee the overall health and safety program, policies and training to ensure they are up to date and accurate
  • Drive the monthly Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings coordinating all paperwork associated with monthly inspections, agendas, meeting minutes and follow up
  • With the applicable manager, conduct incident/accident investigation and report to WSIB, MOL as required and manage the early and safe return to work process.  
  • Generate health and safety employee engagement program.
  • Create Monthly Safety Reports, Injury Statistics; NMI, First Aid and Injury Profile Reports as required
  • Manage all WSIB claims
  • Represent the division on WSIB Appeals and hearings as required
  • Lead workplace investigations based on workplace incidents or complaints and support managers in effective resolution and application of progressive discipline.
  • Drive the annual performance appraisal process and support managers in the development and execution of performance improvement plans/development plans or terminations as required.
  • Incorporate employee wellness initiatives for the workforce i.e. resources on Wellness Wall, inclusion of Wellness related topics in the newsletter, Yoga Program, summer walking program, etc.
  • Produce HR reports for Vice Presidents, including cost per labour pound analysis, overtime analysis, and any other costing/reporting as requested.
  • Manage and negotiate contract for facility services, i.e. janitorial contractor

Requirements:

  • Strong computer skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint- ability to pick up new systems quickly is an asset;
  • Ability to examine issues both strategically and tactically;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization and presentation skills;
  • Ability to remain flexible, re-prioritize and respond to changing demands/focus;
  • Health and Safety knowledge and Joint Health and Safety Committee experience for office and manufacturing atmosphere;
  • Experience with unionized employees.
