We are currently seeking a regular full-time Manager, People Relations to join the People department. Reporting to the Chief, People, the Manager, People Relations acts as a consultative advisor providing advice on various workplace and change management initiatives that affect the Gallery’s relationship with its union and non-union workforce; the promotion of positive, mutual respect and accountability; individual employee performance; and dispute resolution of issues. 

The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator who is capable of fostering strong relationships across the organization. They will also have experience in collective bargaining. He/She/They will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (i.e. Business Administration, Human Resources and Industrial Relations) and certificate in an accredited Human Resources program, CHRL designation plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a broad spectrum of HR functions with at least 2 years’ in a consultant/advisor role;
  • Previous experience with collective bargaining;
  • Sound knowledge of the Human Resource function including related legislation, HR practices, theories, and research in areas including employee and labour relations, performance management, policy development and talent management to provide advice to clients for an informed decision;
  • Utilizes business acumen, analysis and problem solving skills to identify client needs, issues and assess processes, to determine alternatives and recommend options;
  • Utilizes effective strategic consultative and interpersonal skills and must be able to forge strong business relationships with staff and all levels of management across the Gallery;
  • Employee relations skills to analyze and resolve grievances, harassment investigations, and other labour relation issues and to manage all stages of the grievance process;
  • A sound knowledge of, and skills in the interpretation and application of government and AGO policies, procedures, practices, relevant legislation, regulations, and Collective Agreements to provide consultation, expert advice and guidance to management;
  • Applies customer service skills to develop and manage collaborative working relationships with clients and the People DivisionTeam; maintains a positive working relationship through negotiation and dispute resolution skills with union representatives to minimize labour relations issues.
