Temporary, Part Time
RECRUITMENT & EMPLOYEE RELATIONS SPECIALIST
24 hours/week; approximately 18 month term
West District, Hamilton-Niagara Region
The Recruitment and Employee Relations Specialist (RERS) works to ensure qualified staff (and volunteers if applicable) are recruited within the assigned district. The RERS is responsible to predict, plan, advertise, coordinate, and participate in selection activities to ensure consistent and accountable recruitment strategies are implemented. The RERS works within their designated region and in coordination with the Human Resource Department and the District Leadership Team. Working as a team within the District, they seek to promote and enhance the effectiveness of assigned practices/processes for the best interests of all employees within the designated region.
The Recruitment and Employee Engagement Specialist embraces the Christian Faith Foundation of the organization; ensures the Christian ethos and the Values, Vision and Mission permeate their job responsibilities; and personally commits to the expectations as outlined in the Statement of Faith.
Responsibilities:
- Full cycle recruitment from posting jobs, reviewing resumes, screening candidates, preparing and conducting interviews, receiving supporting documentation, checking references through to applicant follow-up.
- Manage relevant databases and recruitment files with strict confidentiality.
- Plan, advertise, and coordinate recruitment activities: Tracking vacant contracts and staffing needs.
- Provide information to public institutions and churches about employment and volunteer opportunities within Christian Horizons and attend job fairs to promote recruitment online and in person.
- Ensure that the organization’s Christian Faith Foundation and expectations based on the Values, Vision and Mission appropriately permeate the activities of the organization in the area of job responsibility.
- Support the functions of the employee engagement structures (Joint Employee Association, Staff Relations Representatives and labour management committees).
- Develop strong relationships within the District and problem solving with relevant parties around District general employee concerns and issues.
- Conduct training or attend training and team meetings as related to recruitment, employee relations, and health and safety.
Requirements:
- 1-2 years recruitment experience.
- College Diploma in Human Resources or a related field, including a strong understanding of Employment Standard and Human Rights Legislation.
- CHRP Designation preferred.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient computer skills: MS Office and online platforms plus HRIS and/or database experience preferred.
