As a strategic partner P&E develops and designs talent initiative that support the realization of the Colleges strategic direction and the guides equity, diversity, anti-racism, inclusion and Indigenization of the institution.


Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, People & Equity and CHRO, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) provides a full range of Human Resources management and consultative advice/counsel to designated internal client groups across the College. This role is instrumental in partnering with their client groups in strategic planning, change and transformation, including the people and equity review and Centennial transformation.

The HRBP will provide and lead solutions and recommendations on recruitment and selection, employee and labour relations, performance management, organizational development, compensation and benefits, training and development and workforce planning. Working with the People & Equity centres of excellence, the HRBP will be accountable for translating and implementing programs and policies within their client groups, knowing when to partner and include their SME colleagues to address unique situations. Through the lens of equity, inclusion and decolonization, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the development and implementation of service-oriented people strategies that are in line with best practices and current trends, anticipating and meeting current and forward-looking needs of our internal clients while leveraging synergies with HR programs. 

Responsibilities

  • Partners effectively with senior leaders as their liaison and expert to all things people and culture supporting the translation of their operational and strategic needs from a people lens
  •  Acts as the HR professional on all aspects of workforce management and change: providing advice, guidance and support to both employees and line managers across the organization on a variety of complex and sensitive HR issues, ensuring adherence to company policy and employment legislation.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to department leaders on key areas such as: performance management, recruitment, terminations, diversity and inclusion, compensation, employee development, employment equity, change management, succession planning, strategic workforce planning, and team effectiveness.
  • Works in partnership with broader People and Equity teams to plan, develop, implement, and execute programs and projects that meet client needs; ensuring processes and activities align with Faculty and Department priorities.
  • Reinforces and embeds new and emerging change agendas through the implementation of targeted People and Equity initiatives determining the most effective way to carry out practices for the business
  • Leads and implements People and Equity initiatives and projects in collaboration with their peers and internal stakeholders. Seeks out process improvement opportunities and leads initiatives to develop and implement solutions
  • Maintains knowledge of current best practices and trends in human resources, including relevant legislation.
  • Coaches leaders and employees in the successful resolution of issues and conflicts.
  • Builds strong working relationships with senior leaders and networks across the faculty and organization
  • Supports business strategy through providing dynamic solutions using experience, data analyses, and organizational agility
  • Enables an inclusive culture by challenging bias and removing barriers
  • As a strategic and trusted partner, proactively contributes to the business strategy by helping leaders identify, prioritize, and build organizational capabilities, behaviours, structures, and processes, both current and future state.
  • Provides strategic input and support to client groups to grow bench strength; optimize organizational design and create value through workforce and succession planning and champion change management across all levels of the Faculty.
  • Facilitates strategic compensation and benefits conversations in partnership with the Total Rewards team

Note: one position is supporting the academic divisions and one will support non -academic divisions

 


Qualifications/Experience

  • Four year degree preferably in Commerce, Psychology or related field with a focus in Human Resources/Industrial Relations, or equivalent
  • Nine years of progressive Human Resources experience with detailed insight, expertise and experience in multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, and performance management
  • Demonstrated HR experience in a unionized environment with the ability to interpret fundamental collective bargaining
  • Experience in higher education is an asset  in higher education is an asset 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituents with a clear focus on inclusion, diversity, equity and a decolonialized mindset
  • Proven experience linking organizational values, vision and strategy to day-to-day operations.
  • Demonstrated successful experience sourcing for valuable potential recruitment, inclusive of managerial level prospects in a highly competitive market
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant labour laws and practices with the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, collective agreements, and policies
  • Proven and successful experience in influencing management and departmental heads into the adoption of beneficial people management policies and procedures.
  • Proven and successful problem solving experience leading to lasting employee relations solutions within a business.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing presentations, reports and proposals, and meeting with stakeholders.
  • Effective planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize high volume workload, multiple tasks/responsibilities, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Excellent strategic and critical thinking, negotiation, problem solving and strong analytical skills.
