The University of Toronto - Manager, Benefits & Pensions, Division of HR & Equity

The University of Toronto (U of T) seeks an exemplary benefits & pensions specialist for the role of Manager, Benefits & Pensions. With ongoing recognitions from national surveys including Canada’s Best Diversity Employers, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers, and Canada’s Top 100 Employers, U of T offers a wonderful environment for an experienced HR professional to continue their impactful work. For more information about the University, visit https://www.utoronto.ca/.

Reporting to the Director, Benefits, Pensions & Payroll, the Manager brings insights and expertise to the day-to-day operations of the University's benefit and retirement programs. Providing strategic advice to the Director, the incumbent ensures the institution’s benefit and retirement programs are responsive to the changing needs of the University’s employee groups. In addition to being an advisor to colleagues and senior administrators, the Manager leads a team of benefit and pension specialists who complete tasks in compliance to institutional standards, policies, programs, contracts, collective agreements, as well as legislation more broadly.

The ideal candidate will bring a perfect blend of advisor and doer to this position—someone who thinks critically and generates ideas while putting their technical skills to use. They will bring progressively senior leadership experience to the portfolio, preferably gained within a multi-employee group, decentralized environment, and will have knowledge of HRIS systems and technology-based solutions in support of strategic HR initiatives. As faculty, staff, and students of U of T work hard to maintain the institution’s highly collegial and inclusive environment, the Manager must genuinely exhibit values of collaboration, diversity, inclusivity, and respect—in all their forms—be highly ethical in all aspects in their work and activities, and have a track record of working effectively with a wide range of individuals. A university degree in human resources or business administration is sought plus the completion of relevant professional development work (e.g. Pension Plan Administration Certificate, or certificates that lead to becoming a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist or a Certified Human Resources Professional), although the equivalent combination of experience and education is welcomed.

The University of Toronto is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from racialized persons / persons of colour, women, Indigenous / Aboriginal People of North America, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ persons, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. In accordance with the AODA Act, accommodation will be provided throughout the recruitment process to applicants with disabilities.

The University of Toronto invites applications from all qualified candidates; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. The University is partnering with BIPOC Executive Search as well as Odgers Berndtson on this assignment to ensure a broad and diverse list of candidate applications. Interested candidates can send their resume to Jason Murray at jmurray@bipocsearch.com or to uoftbp@odgersberndtson.com.

We thank everyone for their expression of interest and are truly appreciative of the time individuals put into applying; however, with the limitations of time only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
