Senior Director, Human Resources

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Senior Director, Human Resources works cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the Senior Management Team in implementing business plan objectives in accordance with the strategic direction of the London Police Service (LPS).

The Senior Director, Human Resources provides leadership, direction, guidance and oversight on a wide range of human resources functions including, but not limited to, the recruitment and retention of sworn and civilian members; workplace health and safety; return to work programming; accommodations; Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) issues; and advice and assistance in the collective bargaining process and other labour relations matters.

The Senior Director, Human Resources reports directly to the Deputy Chief, Administration and is ultimately accountable to the Office of the Chief.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) designation – Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) or Certified Human Resources Executive (CHRE)
  • Maintain HRPA designation and engage in ongoing professional development
  • Minimum 5 years prior experience in a director/manager level human resources management position
  • 10 years previous experience working in a human resources management position

 

Functional Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the achievement of long-term strategic human resources plans and objectives, providing leadership to members of the Human Resources Division, ensuring activities are aligned with the immediate and long-term objectives of the LPS including, but not limited to, objectives and goals set out in the LPS Business Plan, LPS Procedures, corporate plans and directives from the Senior Executive. 
  • Implement strategies and mechanisms to ensure effective talent management and succession planning as well as an efficient and value-added employee performance management program across the Service.
  • Direct all components of the recruitment and selection process for internal and external candidates, ensuring that the job requirements, selection procedures, testing standards, and interview processes are legislatively compliant, efficient and effective.
  • Oversee the London Police Service Pay Equity Program.
  • Ensure members have the appropriate training and equipment necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of their positions.
  • Direct all Health and Safety initiatives, programs and policies to ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Advise all levels of staff on employee/labour relations matters including the interpretation of collective agreements.
  • Support the London Police Service in the collective bargaining process.
  • Liaise with the London Police Association on labour relations matters on behalf of the police service.
  • Manage labour relations and employee-related matters, including the process for job accommodation requests. 
  • Prepare and oversee the Human Resources Division budget in accordance with approved funding levels, maintaining fiscal responsibly and accountability.
  • Direct the administration of the Disability Management and Return to Work programs including WSIB and Employee Assistance programs.
  • Manage all claims of workplace harassment including investigating, documenting and resolving complaints.
  • Promote and support a workplace that is respectful and inclusive for all members by actively supporting the principles underlying the LPS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan and ensuring day-to-day activities and decision-making within the Division is consistent with those principles.

Salary: $131,479 - $179,772 (after 30 months)
