Description:

Under the direction of the Manager, Compensation, the incumbent provides a broad range of analytical, consultative and administrative services relating to the Compensation Programs for various employee groups. The Compensation Consultant will provide front-facing support and advice to the broader Central HR Management team and on the delivery of training on compensation, goal setting and performance assessment matters. This position will also have a role in the administration of job evaluation programs, including the facilitation of evaluations and rating of positions through a variety of job evaluation systems. This role will work collaboratively across various portfolios on cross-functional teams.

The responsibilities of the Compensation Consultant include: providing consultation and analytical support in the administration of the University's pay policies and programs, such as performance assessment, job evaluation, pay equity initiatives, salary administration; managing salary survey participation and benchmark assessment; preparing and analyzing a wide variety of official university reports; advising HR professionals on the interpretation of compensation policies, salary administration and special projects; developing and delivering of training to Managers and HR Community on compensation matters. This position will also work on compensation related projects and initiatives either as a member of the team or project lead.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

I. EDUCATION: University degree in a relevant field plus the completion of coursework towards a relevant professional designation, such as CHRP or Certified Compensation Professional, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

II. EXPERIENCE: Minimum 4 years of progressively senior human resources experience with specialization in compensation, job evaluation, and data analysis. Past experience with job evaluation in a unionized environment is highly desirable.

III. SKILLS: High level of proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Excellent knowledge of HRIS systems and presentation software including PowerPoint. Project planning and management experience.

IV. OTHER: Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills. Proven analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated strong presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to develop training materials for a range of audiences and based on established learning outcomes. Ability to work effectively with multiple and conflicting priorities and to meet deadlines. Effective client service skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to build effective relationships with colleages and key stakeholders. Just demonstrate a balance between a focus on compliance, and creativity and initiative. Must display an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity. Must demonstrate the ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality.
