The LCBO is currently seeking a Director, Workplace Investigations who will define and lead the development and implementation of the newly built Workplace Investigations Centre of Expertise. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Human Resources, the Director of Workplace Investigations will be accountable for building the Workplace Investigations strategy, policies and processes that will serve the entire organization including Retail, Supply Chain, Retail Service Centres and Corporate operations.

The incumbent will provide an evidence-based investigation practice to mitigate possible risk and exposure to the organization, while discerning and resolving investigation cases sooner. They will also support our partners in HR Advisory and Business HR when matters are raised from client groups, including consultation on the interpretation, administration and application of investigation leading practices.

About the Role

  • Establish the corporate-wide strategies, processes and procedures for the Workplace Investigation function.
  • Collaborate with the executive management team to align the Workplace Investigation direction with the overall goals of the organization.
  • Develop, implement and maintain decision-making policies and participate in case reviews and consultations with the goal of driving consistency in process, procedure, outcomes and employee experience.
  • Leads the organization’s workplace investigations function including oversight to education and training initiatives.
  • Ensures fair application of workplace related issues, which may include investigation process, grievances and conflict resolution.
  • Directs internal investigations of workplace concerns including code-based violations, employee relations, ethics etc.
  • Ensures investigations are legally defensible, well-reasoned, and sound.
  • Develops investigations benchmarks, decision tree and goals and coordinates a tracking system that will ensure strict confidentiality and privacy of data.
  • Leads all aspects of the development, optimization and standardization of both internal and external investigations models and processes.

About You

  • LL.B. with focus on criminal or employment law.
  • 15 years of related workplace investigations experience with some in a unionized environment.
  • A Certified Human Resources Professional designation and/or Master of Industrial Relations.
  • Leadership experience in creating a workplace investigation centre of expertise structure.
  • Strong influencing skills at the C-suite level.
  • A strategy and change catalyst, proven leader with excellent financial acumen.
  • A relationship builder with superb communication skills.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in end-to-end investigations processes.
  • Solid understanding of leading practices in the effective management of conducting investigations governance and compliance.
  • Ability to develop and translate strategy into plans, programs and results in a unionized environment.
