Provides leaders and employees with information and guidance in the interpretation of organizational policy and collective agreements.

Maintains current and in-depth knowledge of Ministry of Labour, Employment Standards, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights and other legislated requirements and ensures ongoing compliance.

Researches a variety of topics and legislation in relation to human resource/leaves management trends and makes recommendations to leadership as requested.

Provides guidance to operational leaders in problem-solving general employee relations issues.

Provides guidance to leaders on the Return to Work, Incident/Accident, and Accommodation processes.

Provides leadership with a variety of reports such as, but not limited to, workplace accidents/injuries/incidences/illnesses, workplace Inspections, emergency preparedness, leaves of absences, Loss of Earnings, etc., and recommends strategies for improvements where necessary.

Collaborates with organizational leaders to establish and maintain a Health and Safety Program that meets workplace health and safety regulations as legislated under the OHSA.

Assists leaders with workplace injury and accident reporting, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of all reporting documentation such as, but not limited to, Form 7s, Accident/Incident Reporting, etc.

Act as the primary point of contact for employees, leaders and WSIB/benefit providers related to claims management.

 Assists employees in Functional Abilities Assessment process to support the accommodation of restrictions and support a safe and early return to work. Handles the leave administration process from the employee’s initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work.

Gathers and completes all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, and requesting medical certification as needed. 

A degree in Human Resource management or related field required.  Holds or is currently working toward a CHRP designation.  Four years of experience in HR management within a unionized non-profit, social service or health service environment essential.  Must have previous leadership experience with the ability to inspire and influence others.  Intimate knowledge of human resource practices, labour law, health and safety/WHIMIS legislation, Human Rights Code, Pay Equity and Employment Standards Act, Canadian Pension Plan and Payroll Compliance Legislation required.  A demonstrated ability to deal with a diverse range of people is essential.  Must be able to think and act strategically and problem-solve effectively.  Previous experience coaching others with the ability to achieve high levels of customer engagement desired.  Must possess superior organizational, communication and written skills; and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.  Proficiency in Microsoft suit and Human Resource Management data bases required.  A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required for this position.
