Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for a Human Resources Manager to work in an industry-driven research environment.  Vineland Research and Innovation Centre is a world-class research centre dedicated to horticultural science and innovation. GENERAL OUTLINE OF POSITION:

This position is responsible for providing expertise and support in all facets of Human

Resources including HRIS management, labour relations, policy development and

legislative compliance, health & safety, talent acquisition (recruitment, selection, retention)

and HR project management.  Reporting to Vineland’s Vice President, Operations, this

position supports the Vineland Senior Management Team to provide business partner

centred HR support and advice across all Vineland operations through leading, instituting

and assisting in the management of progressive and effective human resources practices. 

This requires the appropriate combination of vision, leadership, interpersonal skills,

human resources experience and policy development experience.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides Human Resources support and technical expertise in support of corporate objectives

  • Functions as a project lead to support the implementation of identified HR initiatives (i.e. ADP Workforce Now™ software and HRIS system implementation, performance management, succession planning, etc.)
  • Provides Human Resources leadership and guidance to the Senior Management Team, people managers and employees at all levels
  • Coordinates and supports HR functions, including but not limited to:
    • labour and employment relations,
    • learning & development,
    • performance management,
    • talent attraction & retention,
    • recruitment, selection & on-boarding,
    • disability management,
    • health & safety,
    • policy and procedure compliance,
    • compensation and benefits administration.
  • Works collaboratively with the Vice President, Operations to resolve concerns and inquiries regarding programs, policies and benefits
  • Develops project and work plans that address direct delivery of HR core functions
  • Communicates HR policies & procedures, Employment Standards legislation & regulations and promotes HR programs that support Vineland Core Values
    • Ensures certification for management and employee representatives for health & safety compliance
    • Ensure all employees complete and maintain general and mandatory H&S training and documentation maintained
  • Provides advice and guidance on organizational issues in support of corporate vision, objectives and people management strategies
  • Provides insight and recommendations as HR subject matter expert to support all areas of business, positive work culture, operational opportunities/risks in order to support the development, launch and ongoing maintenance of key HR programs
  • Supports short and long term human resources strategic planning efforts, problem-solving and recommendations to the Senior Management Team
  • Maintains people metrics, themes and formulates recommended actions for SMT, people managers and management teams
  • Researches, gathers information and offers recommendations for changes to policies, procedures and processes that ensure compliance and effectiveness
  • Acts as corporate lead with pension & benefits administration including:
    • monitoring monthly billing/utilization, employee support on benefit-related issues and referrals,
    • benefit provider service level, regular program review, cost-effectiveness and coverage provider & plan recommendations

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Post-secondary degree with a focus on Human Resources, related field or equivalent
  • Certification in Human Resources Management and/or professional HR designation (preferred)
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Human Resources, preferably in a medium-sized organization with diverse, professional workforce, and proven responsibilities across a broad base of human resource functions
  • Ability to communicate a strong commitment to the Mission and Vision of Vineland Research and Innovation Centre
  • A strong vision for people management - development and care of employees
  • Experience with HR/HRIS software systems and implementation (e.g. ADP Workforce Now™ or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated self-confidence and strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and projects

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Previous experience with Health & Safety
  • Previous experience with employment legislation and regulatory compliance
  • Strategic thinking with strong analytical skills, creative problem solving and problem resolution
  • Previous experience with employee growth & development, including effective performance management practices
  • Previous experience with the development, implementation and monitoring of an effective policy framework for all human resource matters
