Program Overview – People & Culture, Central Services

The People & Culture team is responsible for developing and implementing human resources programs and systems that help to achieve the overall vision, values, and strategies of WoodGreen, while meeting the needs of key stakeholders.  We achieve this by:

What You Will Do

  • Acts as a resource and provides advice to frontline Managers in all human resources functions.
  • Provides support and advice in the recruitment of new staff including; updating and revising job descriptions; preparing and positing of vacancies; guiding the interview and selection process to assess the relative strength of each candidate; administering the employment, criminal, and vulnerable sector checks for prospective candidates; and issuing job offers.
  • Responsible for the processing and submission of all Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims and facilitate early and safe return to work.
  • Acts as a back-up to the Management Co-Chair on the Multi-Site Joint Health and Safety Committee when necessary.
  • Responsible for supporting management with performance management activities including coaching, the disciplinary process, establishment of performance improvement plans, annual performance evaluations, and when necessary, the termination process.
  • Ensures consistent interpretation and implementation of the collective agreement across the organization.
  • Supports the benefit administration process including assisting with the enrolment of staff, responding to staff inquiries regarding entitlements, and resolving issues with the provider.
  • Oversees the administration of all leaves, including but not limited to, sick leave, short-term disability, maternity and parental leaves, education leaves, and personal leaves.  
  • Supports the development and evaluation of a staff recognition program, and responsible for implementation and execution of assigned elements.
  • Ensures organizational compliance with relevant legislation including, but not limited to, the Employment Standards Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and the Ontario Human Rights Act.
  • Recommends changes and updates to human resources policies and procedures in response to new legislation, operational needs, or identified organizational risks.
  • Supports organizational training and development by identifying legislative training requirements and providing subject matter expertise in the development of required material.
  • Ensures effective communication between People & Culture and other units including: Finance (payroll); Information Systems, and Operational Units.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • CHRP designation in place or in progress.
  • Three-five (3-5) years of experience in Human Resources, preferably within a unionized setting.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Thorough knowledge of employment, labour, human rights and other applicable statutes and legislation.
  • Ability to deal with all levels of staff and management in a professional manner.
  • Ability to use professional knowledge and judgement in interpreting the collective agreement, insurance policies, and organizational policies, procedures, and practices. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, management, and external parties. 
  • Ability to influence and persuade others to take action while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Ability to effectively analyze situations and recommend a course of action.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Previous experience in the non-profit sector an asset.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office, as well as the ability to learn new applications quickly.  Previous experience with Emperform and Quandrant HR would be considered an asset.
