Profile:

Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, the Senior Manager Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be responsible for advancing the diversity and inclusion strategy by leading the development, implementation and monitoring a comprehensive equity, diversity and anti-racism strategy that supports March of Dimes Canada’s mission, vision and values. This role will support MODC’s commitment to build and sustain a workplace culture that is responsive to the needs of the people we serve, and nurtures learning and growth.  The ideal candidate will be able to build upon existing diversity efforts and design and implement new, actionable and measurable initiatives that create meaningful change through a culture of diversity and inclusion. 

Responsibilities:

  • Create a comprehensive road map and implementation plan to define key organizational gaps, goals and the process and timing for achieving them.
  • Work with the Diversity Task Group in identifying new initiatives and in recommending key performance indicators and metrics to measure, track and analyze the impact and effectiveness of these new initiatives. 
  • Research, develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to foster the organization’s diversity goals.
  • Review current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder MODC’s diversity goals.
  • Collect and analyze statistical data to evaluate MODC’s workforce in accordance with diversity standards and goals.
  • Assess and report on MODC’s performance associated with legislative requirements in relation to Employment Equity, Human Rights Code, and other related diversity requirements.
  • Provide policy advice and expertise on MODC’s compliance obligations under the Human Rights and other legislation.
  • Enhance culture by collaborating with the HR senior management to ensure that the principles of diversity and inclusion are integrated into management processes and programs, including hiring, training and development, retention, and promotions, etc.
  • Support the HR recruitment team to help create an employment brand that appeals to diverse and racialized candidates and remove bias.
  • Identify internal and external trends and recognize best practice which will increase diversity among the workforce and enhance our practices.
  • Facilitate the development of internal capacity for prevention and resolutions of equity and anti-racism related conflicts by working with programs management to resolve these issues.
  • Work closely with the HR senior management team to strategize on, operationalize and support diversity and inclusion calendar events recognising the streams of diversity across Canada. 
  • Work with internal communications team to draft and share messages to various internal and external channels such as our newsletter, intranet, and social media, as appropriate to build our employer brand in an authentic and effective way.
  • Identify the learning needs of various stakeholders to increase awareness, effectiveness and impact of diversity and inclusion to staff, management and volunteers.
  • Engage external vendors as needed for specific training needs to be fulfilled and to support diversity and retention initiatives.
  • Act as the organization’s liaison with government agencies when required concerning employment equity, and equity, and inclusion issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
  • At least five (5) years of Human Resources or related experience specializing in diversity, equity and in implementing organizational diversity and inclusion transformational strategies in large organization with diverse constituencies.
  • At least three (3) years of management experience in the following areas: change management, culture transformation, leadership training, adult education or related areas.
  • Certification in Human Resources is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of change management principles, strategies, and applications.
  • Excellent leadership, planning, organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Adept at facilitating difficult discussions, managing change, creating and strengthening partnerships. 
  • Driven to take initiative, work pro-actively under pressure, coordinate and manage projects from initiation to completion
  • A strong communicator who can articulate the organizational diversity, inclusion and accessibility mission and impact to a broad range of diverse stakeholders.
  • Thorough understanding of federal and provincial relevant legislation regarding diversity and inclusion, Employment Equity and the Human Rights Code.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
