Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the HR Department in all areas, including HR Management, Health and Safety, Wellness and Training and HR policies and procedures.
  • Perform continuous evaluation, development, and execution of all aspects of the HR department, initiate and implement approved projects/changes as required
  • Oversee the HR functions throughout the organization, including recruitment and selection, orientation, employee relations, performance management, retention,  diversity initiatives, succession management and possible termination
  • Lead meetings and presentations, and interface with all levels of staff and the Board of Directors with tact and diplomacy.
  • Direct and support training, leadership development, innovation, employee recognition, and employee wellness programs and initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Plan and provide human resources strategy, direction, and advice to the Executive team as needed, including guidance for change management initiatives that support SLFNHA’s long term First Nation recruitment objectives;
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements.
  • Identify emerging issues, trends and challenges within the environment and the field of HR, and plan/implement organizational changes accordingly.
  • Monitor and address issues that affect the overall health of the organization’s morale, employee engagement, turnover, absenteeism and productivity.
  • Prepare and issue briefing notes, background documents, discussion papers and presentations to the Board of Directors.
  • Implement and manage compensation plans including job classification, benefits programs, and pension plans.
  • Ensure the security and appropriate retention of personnel records.Develop and implement strategies to increase diversity & inclusion within SLFNHA with First Nations employees.
  • Ensure First Nations (Anishinaabe teachings), culture, values and traditions are honoured throughout the organization and through the delivery of services in the 33 communities that SLFNHA serves
  • Position SLFNHA as the Employer of Choice in the region
    Travel as required.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of post-secondary education in the field of HR is required
  • Minimum of 7 years work experience in HR; 5 years work experience in the healthcare industry and/or government entity preferred, with significant management and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet strategic objectives for HR and the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage HR core processes such as talent management, succession planning and employee relations.
  • Proven project management skills required.
  • Able to make sound business decisions and evidence-based recommendations;
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Experience with negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Sound leadership, people management, and teambuilding skills.
  • Working knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes, including Canada Labour Code, Employment Equity Act and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Ability to follow through and complete multiple simultaneous projects.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning.
  • The ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout Zone would be an asset
