The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (the “Port”) is responsible for the stewardship of federal port lands at the Port of Vancouver. Its mandate is to enable Canada’s trade through the Port of Vancouver, while protecting the environment and considering local communities. The Port is governed by an independent Board of Directors and is accountable to the federal minister of transport under the Canada Marine Act.

Employing almost 500 people, the Port operates in an environment that has a much more complex strategic agenda than its headcount alone would indicate. As one of the world’s most diversified ports and a significant part of British Columbia’s and Canada’s dynamic gateway for trade and tourism, the Port of Vancouver generates an estimated $9.7 billion in GDP and represents a major economic force that underpins the strength of the Canadian economy through international trade. The Port has a strong relationship with its employees most of whom are represented by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 517, and its mandate is affected by the labour stability across the entire Canadian supply chain. Therefore, the organization is seeking a strategic leader who will understand, monitor and influence the landscape beyond the direct Port workforce to facilitate the delivery of its mandate.

The Port is seeking a new Vice President, People, Process & Performance (the Vice President or VP), to provide strategic, executive leadership in the development and implementation of innovative, progressive improvements across the organization. The Vice President is accountable for ensuring the Port’s Human Resources and Business Optimization Departments to support the attainment of the Port’s mission and business objectives. The new VP will support and facilitate significant organizational development as it evolves to explore a new HRIS, remote working arrangements, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) imperatives.

As the ideal candidate, you are an executive leader with exceptional strategic thinking skills and a track record of contributing to an executive team in the overall leadership of a business. You have a track record of success in an executive role within a progressive organization with significant exposure to human resources, change management and business optimization. You are forward-thinking and have broad expertise that should include labour relations, employee engagement, organizational development, and EDI.

This is a compelling opportunity to join a high performing executive team in promoting positive and lasting change in an organization whose mandate and activities are nation building.  The organization has grown significantly over the last decade as it has successfully contributed to and facilitated growth in the Vancouver Gateway and this opportunity provides the potential to contribute to further growth in Canada’s largest and most dynamic port.

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is dedicated to employment equity and a workplace reflective of the diversity of its community.
