POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a fundamental member of the Human Resources team, the HR Generalist is responsible for the effective daily operation of the organization’s Human Resources programs/initiatives. The main  focus of this role is to guide and manage the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the assigned departments within the agency.  The HR Generalist will serve as a coach and advisor to the assigned departments providing them with support and guidance while using critical thinking skills. This position reports to the Manager of Talent Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that HR department initiatives align with business objectives by identifying solutions and developing strategies; advise managers on how HR can help them achieve business goals
  • Partner with leadership of departments as the subject matter expert and provide advice, guidance, and work with leadership to develop solutions to concerns across all components of the talent portfolio (i.e., employee relations, benefits, recruitment, compliance, etc.)
  • Coach leaders with respect to performance issues of staff; lead the annual performance review program
  • Develop and achieve operational and service objectives for Human Resources that support strategic objectives
  • Facilitate program and organizational change activities and develop staff buy-in and alignment to new directions
  • Employee relations: develop strong communication plans; help create a positive culture that promotes growth and retention; build and maintain strong relationships with managers and employees; act as a mediator when required
  • HR services: research and stay up to date with current trends in HR services; ensure that HR programs (such as recruitment, talent, and performance management) are meeting the needs of the employees and the organization
  • Payroll and compensation: ensure Carizon is following applicable policies. Provide necessary documents to payroll for processing of bi-weekly payroll.  Manage and administer the benefits and RRSP plans.
  • Full cycle recruitment: work with hiring managers to fill all recruitment needs, including such activities as screening candidates, drafting/reviewing interview questions, participating in or conducting interviews
  • Health & Safety: support assigned client groups, providing them with guidance and coaching in relation to Health and Safety protocols, compliance, and recommendations as required
  • HRIS System: Manage the HRIS system by keeping employee profiles up to date and accurate while troubleshooting any issues to ensure maximum usage and efficiencies.   Regularly audit the systems to ensure that data is accurate.
  • Prepare reports, update various HR metric scorecards to track new and established key metrics

(i.e., Voluntary, and involuntary exits, time to hire, safety incidents, etc.)

  • Analyze statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of personnel trends and develop recommendations for improvement of Human Resources policies and practices
  • Deliver presentations and training as a subject matter expert as required.
  • Participate in HR departmental planning and projects by preparing recommendations and developing communication materials as appropriate
  • Manage salary administration program and ensure compliance with external legislation and internal policies.
  • Prepare reports, update various HR metric scorecards to track established key metrics
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions. Support the job evaluation process; ensure maintenance of pay equity
  • Conduct and/or support investigations as needed.
  • HR policies: draft and amend policies, communicate, and train managers and employees on HR policies, programs, processes, advise on areas such as compensation, employment equity, terminations, job evaluations, and monitor the effectiveness of policies
  • Assist with WSIB and Return to Work programs as needed
  • Design, monitor and support return-to-work and accommodation plans
  • Identify training and development opportunities for managers and employees; research and develop programs; facilitate training when required
  • To always perform work safely and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)

  • Bachelor’s degree/ diploma in Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • At least five years of progressive Human Resources work experience
  • CHRP/CHRL designation is preferred and considered an asset
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills working with diverse groups
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience collecting and maintaining confidential information
  • Requires specialized judgement and decisions for the development of solutions
  • Develop and achieve operational and service objectives for Human Resources that support strategic objectives
  • Collaborates with other leaders and staff in creating, developing, and implementing activities in relation to human resources programs
  • Ingenuity or creativity is required to resolve complex concerns
  • Facilitate program and organizational change activities and develop staff buy-in and alignment to new directions
  • Work is often non-routine requiring independent decision making within legal standards and agency protocol to solve problems
  • Requires strategic planning, organizational and management skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Organized with excellent attention to detail
