KAIROS, Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives is a movement of people of faith and conscience – Indigenous, settler and newcomer – who share a commitment to ecological justice and human rights in Canada and beyond.  KAIROS has approximately 35 staff located in offices in Toronto and Ottawa and working at home in other parts of Canada. A joint ecumenical venture of the United Church of Canada, its members include ten churches and religious organizations. (www.kairoscanada.org)

KAIROS is seeking an individual to fill the role of Manager, Human Resources on a full-time (35 hrs/week) permanent basis.

The Manager, Human Resources’ role is instrumental in providing strategic leadership and support to develop the Human Resources Strategy for KAIROS. The role includes accountability for the implementation, evaluation, improvement, and maintenance of the Human Resources and Organizational Development programs and operations, liaising with the United Church of Canada as appropriate, to align with and support KAIROS’ strategic plan. Contributing as an experienced member of the Management Team (MT), this position helps to inform the strategic and operational direction of KAIROS and supports the overall success of the entire organization, with a strong focus and responsibility towards the progressive and effective leadership of all Human Resources policies, programs, and staff.  

This position provides expert level strategic and operational guidance across the organization on Human Resources matters in both a union and non-union environment. In the first six (6) months, the successful candidate will be immersed in day to day ground level HR Operations. You will have strong expert knowledge of operational practices and programs to effectively assess and apply strategic HR vision and practices towards developing KAIROS’ short- and longer-term goals with an equity lens across the organization. You will be supportive and collaborative with the MT to build a strategic equity framework to support KAIROS’ commitment to justice and human rights.

You will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Management Team, staff and, as required, relevant external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a related field, or university degree plus professional training in human resources, with a minimum of three years of work experience. CHRP/CHRL designation, or equivalent education and experience.  Applicable lived experience connected to the communities KAIROS serves, is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in unionized environments including practical hands on experience with collective bargaining processes and applicable legislation
  • Solid applicable design rollout and follow up on building strategic organizational design and direction within an equity framework lens
  • Commitment to the mission and values of KAIROS
  • Comfort working in an ecumenical Christian context
  • Sensitivity and capacity working cross culturally and with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholder relationships
  • A solid understanding of employment legislation and best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational design and cultural change
  • Demonstrated experience with HR and Payroll systems and tools
  • Practical knowledge of the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience in developing and leading training and educational sessions
  • Attendance at occasional evening and weekend meetings may be required
