Job Title:            Human Resources Generalist     

Department:       Human Resources

Reports To:        Manager, Human Resources

Level:                  4

Purpose of Job

The Human Resources Generalist will cover a full range of HR support services including but not limited to employee relations, HRIS expertise, Recruitment, Health & Safety, general day-to-day employee assistance and a variety of special projects. You will be expected to support the TA team, the DE&I Manager as well as the L&D Manager as required.  You are someone who takes initiative and is constantly looking for ways to optimize and improve the HR function. You will collaborate with the Human Resources Manager on projects and assist with supporting the HR team on day to day HR initiatives.

You will be an integral part of the HR team and will work to ensure EQB remains a top employer of choice.

Main Activities:

HR Administration - 50 %

  • Act as point of contact for all staff and management
  • Manage employee relationships
  • Respond to all e-mails/inquires for staff including, but not limited to, benefits questions, vacation inquiries, etc.
  • Assists with the company-wide communications involving wellness, training, health and safety, culture and engagement
  • Follow up on outstanding matters
  • Provide managers with feedback from their employees and advise on best course of action to deal with problems, as required
  •  Oversee the maintenance of the HRIS system, Dayforce HCM
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations and Company policies; proactively identify, correct and report issues
  • Collaborate with HR team to ensure consistent business practice and share learnings
  • Maintain HR social media channels
  • Assist with Anniversary and Birthday recognitions 

Recruitment - 20%

  • Manage Student programs (intern and Leadership Development Program) and be involved in all aspects of the recruiting, university/college relationship building and promoting EQB
  • Work to optimize both programs, focusing on key metrics and constantly working to improve
  • Leading full cycle recruitment, as required, including: posting positions, resume screening, , interviews, pre-employment aptitude testing, reference checks, background checks, and negotiating/issuing offers
  • Participate in exit interviews
  • Assist in job posting process on the Applicant Tracking System. Work with managers on preparation of job descriptions/job postings
  • Assist in the maintenance of annual headcount, post job positions on HRIS and update the intranet

Health & Safety and Wellness - 10%

  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations
  • Conduct risk assessment on a monthly basis to ensure all workplace accidents/injuries/illnesses and unsafe acts can be prevented
  • Encourage and participate in the ongoing health and safety program through membership in and cooperation with the Workplace Health & Safety Committee
  • Apply good housekeeping standards and maintain work environment in a clean and safe condition, adhering to applicable health & safety issues
  • Become knowledgeable with and conduct all work-related activities in accordance with company policies and procedures regarding Environmental objectives
  • Maintain and continue to expand EQ Strong, Equitable’s health and wellness program

Special Projects - 20 %

  • Key project member for all HRIS module additions and other projects
  • Compensation, with SVP, HR and HRIS
  • Assist in the implementation of new Job Evaluation system
  • Ad-hoc projects as assigned by the SVP, HR and Director, HR
  • Ad-hoc projects as assigned by the DE&I Manager and/or the L&D Manager


Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

  • 3-5 years’ progressive HR experience, preferably in a Financial Institution
  • CHRP designation preferred
  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources (degree or certificate)
  • Strong experience with MS Office Suite of products
  • Advanced experience with HRIS, Ceridian Dayforce
  • Takes initiative and looks for ways to optimize and increase efficiencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to ensure goals and deadlines are met
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, be highly organized and flexible to pivot with competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and perform under pressure and within tight time constraints
  • Thinks outside the box and challenge the status quo, while also fairly evaluating all possible solutions in making strategic decisions
  • Knowledgeable of all federal legislation and corporate HR-related compliance matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of staff and management and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with external contacts
  • Effective problem-solving capabilities
  • Possess the ability to work with a high degree of confidentiality
