  • Ensure HR presence on shop floor by performing daily walkabouts (all shifts) and monitor / make enquiries regarding employee satisfaction, work environment issues, etc.
  • Assist in resolving work place issues - listening, reporting issues, documenting, following up, and fostering use of "open door" process for resolution with employees/management
  • Monitor assigned groups to ensure open communication (e.g. coordinate meetings to be held min. every 6 weeks, etc.)
  • Assist in preparation and participate in communication meetings: help leaders with developing agenda as required, listen, take notes, clarify policy as required, and follow up with leaders and employees to ensure issues are resolved to employee's satisfaction or responded to appropriately
  • Direct all disciplinary or significant matters of employee quality of work life to the HR Manager
  • Provide HR Manager with information relevant to the development of company policies and strategies (action plans, etc.)
  • Assist in the development/continuity of HR services by regular participation in weekly meetings
  • Responsible for all aspects of claims management (WSIB, Short Term Absence, Long Term Disability), incl. facilitation of return to work program
  • Responsible for various administrative tasks including preparation of correspondence, reports, set up / maintenance of employee records, travel administration, answering reception phone, etc.
  • Flag significant employee dates, issue appropriate documentation as required (performance reviews, wage adjustments, benefits enrolment, terminations/resignations, incl. exit interview questionnaire, etc.) and follow up to ensure completion
  • Responsible for data entry of all employee change records (PeopleSoft, various spreadsheets)
  • Administer Group RRSP / DPSP programs in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • Book, source, coordinate and record training activities in accordance with established ISO training procedure
  • Provide recruitment support using established divisional/corporate guidelines
  • Review Employee Handbook and Benefits Program with new employees in Pre-Orientation and Orientation
  • Provide assistance to new employees upon arrival (i.e. local services, set up temp. medical coverage, accommodation, SIN's/Health Cards, etc.) in accordance with divisional relocation policy
  • Responsible for timely completion of various specific assignments/projects subject to individual focus (e.g. Health & Safety, Training, Wage & Benefits Survey)
  • Abide by and promote all handbook/divisional/legislative/corporate policies and procedures
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required.

SPECIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post Secondary Education / Certificate Human Resources Management.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Human Resources environment.
  • Familiarity with Word/Excel/Powerpoint and ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving/analytical, diplomacy skills.
  • Working knowledge of current legislation (OHS Act, WSIB Act, and Employment Standards Act).
