Job Title: Health and Safety/Human Resources Coordinator 

Reports to: Management 

Located 45 mins north of the GTA.  For over 30 years, Country Signs has been the leader in new construction and refurbishing of gas stations across Canada.  We provide a one stop shop for our customers including but not limited to, full installations, repairs, and service.  We pride ourselves on doing whatever it takes to satisfy the customer with a ‘can do’ mentality.  We are currently looking for a dedicated, hard-working Health and Safety/Human Resources Coordinator to join our team and be an ambassador for Country Signs.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Health & Safety:

• Ensure all staff are trained on the safety requirements implemented by our customers including but not limited to POST, Shell, Parkland, and Petro Canada.

• Ensure all Sub-Contractors comply with all the safety requirements and have the required training.

• Update third party websites regularly with the required documentation and KPIs.

• Ensure all H&S requirements are met for all provinces and territories in Canada.

• Act as the Management Co-Chair on the JHSC and ensure all requirements are met.

• Conduct site safety inspections at least twice per month.

• Investigate any accidents and near misses.

• Complete and submit Form 7 to WSIB.

• Conduct safety talks with the construction crews.

• Develop, implement, and monitor changes in H&S to ensure compliance, including those related to COVID-19.

• Act as an ambassador and promote a safety culture by leading from example.

 

Employee Relations/Training:

• Plan and organize the Human Resources function.

• Coordinate internal and external training activities.

• Develop, implement, and train staff on internal training programs including but not limited to Employee Relations, and Health & Safety.

• Develop Performance Appraisal program, train Managers on conducting Performance Appraisals, and maintain program.

• Advise and assist Managers on interpretation of the Employment Standards Act, 2000, AODA, as well as the OHSA, including the Construction Regulations.

• Coach Managers on employee issues and concerns.

• Assist Senior Management with the termination of employees including termination packages.

• Develop progressive discipline letters and issues letters as needed.

• Develop and maintain job descriptions for all positions in the company.

• Act as a mediator during employee conflicts.

• Investigate any employee issues including but not limited to Harassment and Discrimination.

• Develop and implement all Human Resources policies and procedures.

• Create and place ads for various positions.  Screen resumes and distribute resumes to Management team.

• Schedule interviews and Interview candidates and/or take notes.

• Enter vacation requests into Smartsheet and Microsoft calendar.

 

Key Skills Required:

• A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Human Resources.

• Post-Secondary Degree, diploma, or equivalent in Human Resources Management. 

• Excellent organization & time management skills.

• Excellent command of the English language both verbally and written.

• Highly effective interpersonal skills.

• Detailed knowledge of OHSA, Employment Standards Act, AODA, and other legislation.

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to multi-task when required.

• Excellent computer knowledge including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Smartsheet.
