Osler’s clinical priorities reflect a rapidly growing, aging and ethnically diverse population with the highest prevalence of diabetes and related conditions in Ontario. Health equity is a significant concern for the Central West community as health expenditures represent approximately 50% of the provincial average and Osler’s 985 acute care beds represent just under one bed per thousand population in contrast to the provincial average of over two beds per thousand population. The Position

Osler is seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Vice President, Human Resources (VP). In this key leadership role, the VP will have the mandate to develop and implement key strategies that will augment Osler’s culture, staff engagement, organizational performance, and overall people practices.  A key strategic trusted advisor and collaborative partner, the VP will provide leadership to a broad range of change initiatives that will effectively position the organization to advance HR best practices and proactively respond to market trends and innovation.  The VP will participate in creating and sustaining an organization that fosters a highly engaged, performance-oriented workforce whose outcomes are aligned with Osler’s strategic plan and delivers healthcare that Goes Beyond!

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the VP will be responsible for providing organizational leadership in developing and executing a human resources strategy which supports the overall strategic direction of the Human Resources portfolio, including Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Employee & Labour Relations, Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness, and HR Initiatives. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the VP will be instrumental in envisioning, developing, and maintaining key relationships and partnerships that champion a shared people vision across Osler. The VP will be visible, transparent, innovative, and resilient, and work collaboratively with the SLT to achieve Osler’s mission, vision, and values in the post-pandemic world. 

The VP will support an exceptional and high-performing team who are customer-service driven, and passionate about continuing to build on their strengths and organizational opportunities. Working closely with executives, program leaders, physicians, and the human resources team, the VP will execute on a range of initiatives that effectively empower staff engagement, strategic alignment, and key talent metrics to drive impact. In addition, the VP will facilitate the continued development and implementation of strategies to execute, transform, and translate the organization’s overall business objectives into actionable tactics that develop leadership capacity across the organization. A proactive and pragmatic leader, the VP will focus on achieving results through the development and provision of appropriate learning experiences to accelerate the progression of high-potential employees, ensure a consistent leadership pipeline, build internal capacity, and foster a diverse, inclusive, and inspired culture. Additionally, the VP will champion innovative approaches by partnering across programs to think about new ways to develop staff within Osler.

The VP will be accountable for achieving optimum standards of service, care, and value to staff, patients and the community in a manner consistent with Osler’s mission, vision, and values.  As a leader, the VP will model Osler’s Values (Respect, Excellence, Innovation, Service, Compassion, Collaboration), and continually reflect an open, transparent, optimistic, and positive attitude. The individual will be a leading partner in supporting and ensuring that the Senior Leadership Team has the people, policies, processes and systems needed to meet the overall strategic and operational goals for the organization.

Key leadership priorities for the new VP will be to:

  • Lead strategies that facilitate the achievement of the organizational goals outlined in Osler’s 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, including completion of the HR Strategic Plan, going beyond to cultivate a culture of trust, mutual respect, and empowerment that inspires their people to challenge the status quo with new thinking and new approaches.
  • Support Osler in its achievement of key milestones that drive a high performing culture and a focus on clinical excellence in a post–pandemic world.
  • Provide exceptional leadership, trusted guidance, and counsel to members of the Senior Leadership Team and Hospital Programs on people-related matters and HR systems, processes, and policies.
  • Leverage HR business metrics and strategies that champion a culture of execution and action orientation.
  • Champion key organizational change initiatives that empower staff engagement and development, build leadership capacity, enhance workplace health, safety, and wellness, and further develop constructive and open labour relations.
  • Develop and implement human resources strategies and processes that support Osler’s goals regarding engagement, collaboration, innovation, and workplace excellence.
  • Partner across the organization to build a more dynamic talent pipeline in anticipation of emerging workforce needs, including frontline staff and key strategic projects.
  • Provide exceptional leadership by demonstrating innovation, partnerships, and trust to motivate and drive excellence within the HR Team.

Experience

The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare and/or a similarly complex environment/sector. This is a strategic leadership role that requires a leader that has successfully led an HR function in a large complex, multi-stakeholder, unionized environment and has the proven ability to engage, motivate, and mentor a high performing team. A proactive and pragmatic leader, the successful candidate will have the transformational ability to inspire a successful and progressive people culture.
