Who you are, and what you will do

The Manager, People and Organizational Development will be a strategist, consultant, trusted advisor, coach, and one of the leaders within the People and Organizational Development (POD) Team.

The successful candidate will bring best practices in labour relations and human resources consulting, as well as an innovative, collaborative and strategic approach to all initiatives. As a strategic partner, your advice and expertise will ensure consistency and efficiency in resolving complex Support Staff employee and labour relations matters while ensuring adherence to collective agreements and all relevant policies and legislation. This position has overall responsibility for recruitment and selection processes and leads and/or supports the development and implementation of cross-college organizational development initiatives, including Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Through building partnerships and collaboration with department leaders, you will develop and implement strategies that support people and organizational needs while influencing and driving change. Working with leaders to manage change, grow their teams, and foster the right environment to create an engaging culture, you effectively leverage these partnerships for the purpose of resolving conflict at all levels.

Working in collaboration with the entire POD team, and through the direction of a small team, you will develop innovative strategies and continuous improvement initiatives to meet key strategic objectives and College priorities, and ensure their execution.

Professional and personal qualities you’ll bring

  • An Undergraduate degree, preferably in human resources or labour relations, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. CHRP / CHRL designation preferred.
  • Minimum seven years’ experience in a leadership position related to human resources and labour relations.
  • Extensive experience in interpreting and advising on collective agreements, managing grievances and arbitration processes.
  • Experience in the College sector would be a definite asset.
  • Familiarity with, and respect for, collegial organizational cultures is critical, as is strong emotional intelligence as a leader, with a strong sense of humour and a demonstrated ability to lead in an inclusive, collaborative, and consensus-building style.
  • A learning mindset, with proven ability to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems or challenging issues, and to follow through by facilitating or leading the implementation of these solutions.
  • Experience in coaching and developing teams and individuals to achieve their career goals and in building and maintaining a high performing, highly engaged team.
  • Exceptional communication skills in order to influence, negotiate, and build and maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders, including senior leaders and union colleagues.
  • A strong advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion.

This is a permanent full-time appointment reporting to the Director, People and Organizational Development.  This position also offers flexibility to work remotely from time to time, and will require a physical presence at the College on a regular basis.  The salary range is $91,792 – $122,390 per year and will be considerate of your past professional experience.  We also offer other benefits, such as vacation entitlement, a full suite of extended health benefits and an outstanding pension plan.
