Note:  This is a full-time Administrative position (37.5 hours per week).

Duties:  The Employee Relations Consultant, reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, is responsible for administering and facilitating the College’s policies and issues related to Harassment and Discrimination (Human Rights), Respectful College Community, Employee Code of Conduct, diversity and coordination of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontarians with Disabilities Act (ODA). The position will ensure that the College is in compliance with legislative and collective agreement requirements, and co-ordinate job description and classification responsibilities. Assists with HR portfolio work as assigned.

The position will coordinate and facilitate proactive educational awareness associated with equity and human rights with a focus on diversity, increasing cross-cultural understanding, cultural competences, and building the knowledge and skills required for the College’s employees to become culturally competent. The position will also coordinate education and training related to accessibility as required by the AODA. The mandate is to create a positive learning and working culture that promotes an environment free of harassment and discrimination, and promotes the valuing of diversity in its many forms. This position develops, implements and facilitates related College-wide educational initiatives, training and outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary 3-year equivalency degree/diploma in Human Resources/Psychology or related field
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience working in a unionized environment coordinating respectful and harassment programs
  • Advanced mediation/alternative dispute resolution training
  • Understanding of union collective agreements, OHRC laws, OH&S Act Bill 168, employment equity, conflict resolution skills and the ability to provide leadership to the College to create a learning and work environment that values diversity
  • Excellent presentation/training skills
