The Human Resources Manager oversees matters related to the Human Resources function of Kumon Canada Inc. and is responsible for operational areas, including, but not limited to organizational development, recruitment and retention, employment law, performance management, employee relations and compensation and benefits. 

Job Responsibilities: 

Within the Kumon North America framework: 

  • Drives performance management and compensation processes 
  • Develops, proposes, implements, and evaluates human resources policies and procedures, in accordance with applicable national and provincial laws and local best practices 
  • Develops and delivers associate and management training on Human Resources-related topics 
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department and its members 
  • Manages administration of benefit programs, including paid time off, professional development, health and welfare benefits, short- and long-term disability leaves, retirement savings programs and all other employee benefit programs 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Liaise with Kumon North America HR Management teams to ensure consistency and alignment in achieving KNA’s mission, vision and objectives 
  • Provides feedback to senior management concerning morale, motivation and risk issues 
  • Manages health and safety requirements and programs in accordance with the law and company standards 
  • Oversees payroll administration 
  • Potential supervision of office administration activities 
  • Coordinates with office building management on issues and activities related to the build such as lighting, air conditioning, etc. 
  • Conducts secondary interviews for potential hires and exit interviews for terminating employees 
  • Leads, develops and coaches direct reports 
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skill Set

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required 
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience, including at least 3 years managing teams or as an individual contributor with functional oversight responsibilities 
  • Professional level certification preferred 
  • Strong leadership, coaching and partnering capability combined with demonstrated ability to influence and build credibility 
  • Experience working across the various HR disciplines including compensation, recruitment, employee relations, organizational development, talent management and diversity and inclusion 
  • Strong working knowledge of quality improvement, change management, strategic planning, organizational assessment, and leadership development 
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
