Talent and HR Programs is a dynamic department responsible for Talent Acquisition and Talent Management, Position Management and the development, implementation and evaluation of College-wide Human Resources reporting. The Talent and HR Programs team is growing, and we are looking for two additional Full Time Talent Advisors to join our team.

Reporting to the Manager, Talent and HR Programs, the Talent Advisor is considered the subject matter expert providing expertise and solutions in the areas of talent acquisition and management (recruiting, workforce planning, performance management coaching and succession planning). The Talent Advisor provides information and interpretation of Human Resources policies and practices and employment legislation to People Leaders and employees. The Talent Advisor participates in the review and writing of core Human Resources related policies, procedures and processes. 

The Talent Advisor is responsible for collaborating with People Leaders to ensure their success in relation to talent acquisition and talent management. This includes providing coaching, input and guidance on college procedures and industry standards, while assisting the manager to assess current and upcoming talent needs.  The incumbent will coach managers when dealing with performance management issues related to poor performance, motivating employees to increase performance and supporting high performing employees. This includes providing guidance on college processes, documents, collective agreement considerations and applicable legislation.

The Talent Advisor effectively and efficiently collaborates with Human Resources partners to ensure People Leaders and employees receive the care and service they require for their particular situation.

The Talent Advisor will embrace and model the College’s values, supporting and enabling clients to achieve their organizational objectives, by developing trusting and transparent relationships. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition:

  • Working with Managers, responsible for developing recruitment strategies for full-time and part-time employees
  • Identify and establish sourcing strategies, such as social media tools, proactive networking, and employee referrals.
  • Work with Hiring Managers to screen resumes; ensuring candidates meet the minimum requirements of job postings.

Talent Management & Planning:

  • Working directly with managers to provide day-to-day support in managing high performers, as well as employees who require additional support
  • Supporting managers through goal setting and performance review process, helping to provide feedback for employees to continue to grow as professionals and in their careers
  • Managing a comprehensive performance management program, this includes being knowledgeable on the College’s Directives, Policies, and Collective Agreements as related to performance development and management
  • Assists the Labour Relations team with grievance or arbitration preparation by participating in fact finding meetings, providing applicable background, context and documentation to support an investigation of the College’s position.

Employee Relations:

  • Providing interpretation, technical expertise and consultative services to management and employees on College HR policy and procedures, applicable employment legislation and Collective Agreement requirements
  • Working directly with managers to develop and implement programs to build and strengthen employee engagement
  • Utilizing a proactive approach to conflict resolution, including investigations, facilitating discussions to arrive at practical workable solutions while mitigating barriers to engagement and minimizing organizational risk.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum three (3) year diploma/degree or equivalent in Human Resource Management, or a related field;
  • Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/CHRL) is preferred;
  • Advanced degree in Human Resources Management is an asset.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Human Resources, including experience with the following:
    • Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Workforce Planning and Management – any combination thereof
    • working in a unionized environment
    • Employee Relations
  • Working directly with Managers on HR related matters, providing coaching, guidance and information when required;
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of HR policies, practices and legislation;
  • Knowledge of HR challenges, trends and practices;
  • Knowledge and experience in the application and interpretation of collective agreements;
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to different styles and to develop collaborative relationships with employees at all levels in the organization;
  • Experience making recommendations to update HR policies, business processes, and procedures to support legislative and collective agreement changes;
  • Ability to influence others and to gain support for ideas;
  • Strong communications skills;
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, and Excel) and Workday.
