The Role:

The Health & Safety / Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for multi-location plant level safety programs, safety training, emergency response training, and coordination of JHSC activities as JHSC Chair. Additional Human Resources administration includes full-cycle recruitment through to orientation together with daily company COVID-19 Screening and Monitoring activities. The incumbent will work closely with all levels of Management and Employees.

Responsibilities include:

  • Multi-location Plant Safety including, but not limited to:
    • ensuring compliance with OHS standards, laws, and regulations.
    • working with Managers/Supervisors to ensure relevant information is passed between Employees, Team Leaders and/or Contractors regarding safety management.
    • tracking and coordinating all regulatory and mandatory training programs (forklifts, first aid, AED, hearing protection, fit testing, etc.).
    • reviewing SDS materials, incoming existing and new, to ensure proper safety hazard management and storage of hazardous materials in conjunction with applicable Managers/Supervisors, together with maintaining onsite documentation and network library.
    • daily COVID-19 Visitor/Employee Pre-Entry Screening and Monitoring.
  • As JHSC Chair, in compliance with company and legislative requirements, leads, manages, and/or monitors JHSC activities, together with providing comprehensive and effective JHSC training and quarterly meetings.
  • Act as primary designate to respond to safety-related issues and concerns raised by Employees and/or Management and create plan(s) to correct violation(s)/hazard(s).
  • Conduct accident/incident/near miss investigations and workplace inspections, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Emergency Response Planning, including, but not limited to, drills for all sites and organization of onsite emergency response training/retraining.
  • Full cycle recruitment from resume tracking, phone screening, interview/testing coordination with Management to New Hire Orientations ensuring all documentation is completed, signed, and filed.
  • Maintain regular presence on the shop floor (minimum of 20% of time).

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management with a focus on Health and Safety, together with a minimum 3-years of related safety responsibilities within a Manufacturing environment.
  • Resilient interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus and influence others.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop/maintain databases.
  • Exceptional organizational skills required to handle multiple items and meet deadlines when adapting to changing list of priorities based on needs of the company, regulatory compliance, and management of risk.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft suite of programs.
  • WSIB Claims Management experience preferred.
  • First Aid / CPR Certification preferred.
  • CHRP and/or CRSP Preferred.
  • Reliable vehicle required for travel between locations.
