We are looking for a Benefits & Pension Specialist in our Corporate office in Toronto. The successful candidate will be reporting to the VP of Human Resources and is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and administering all areas of DCL’s benefit and pension programs, policies, and related materials. The Benefits & Pension Specialist provides expertise, guidance, and recommendations on best practices related to the design and operation of benefit and pension programs and has hands-on responsibility for the day-to-day administration and compliance of the programs.

 

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

The specific responsibilities of the Benefits and Pension Specialist, while not limited to include:

 

  • Participate in the development and implementation of effective programs in all key areas of benefits, pension, and disability leave management.
  • Prepare and submit all legislative filings in accordance with the various deadlines.
  • Make proactive recommendations on process and program improvements.
  • Lead and act as main point of contact on all pension/ 401K audits.
  • Assist with the Pension Committee Semi-Annual Meetings in both US and Canada.
  • Research alternate options for benefits packages and investment opportunities.
  • Analyze participation and utilization for all benefits.
  • Stay up to date on local provincial, state and federal regulations concerning insurance and other employee benefits.
  • Design, develop and deploy benefit & pension information sessions for employees and create effective communication materials that highlights the programs we offer.
  • As the SME on benefit and retirement plans, act as a main point of contact for questions and inquires relating to all plans.
  • Resolves any problems or disputes regarding provision of benefits.
  • Accurately maintain employee records, including contributions and deductions related to pension and benefits.
  • Reconciling and processing pension and benefit invoices.

 

 QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

 

  • Minimum 5 years of Human Resources experience, with strong experience in pension and benefits in both Canada and the US
  • Bachelor's Degree/ 3-year College Diploma in Human Resources, Business, or Finance
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), considered an asset
  • Significant exposure to Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit Pension Plans and 401K
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Knowledgeable in current benefit and pension theory, trends, practices, and current employment legislation
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interface with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Results oriented with proven interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Ability to operate with a high volumed profile
  • Strong attention-to-detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel to all DCL workplaces as-needed

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Office environment. Sitting for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other computer components. There will be some travel required to sites for projects or on an as-needed basis for support.
