Summary

This position supports store management and the Metro banner HR team with HR and labour relations activities, including staffing, projects and capital plan activities.

                                                         

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice to Store Management regarding the application of various collective agreements.                                 

  • Fill store bargaining unit vacancies according to the terms of the collective agreements using employee lists (i.e., PT to FT, Transfer Requests, Application for Promotion, Recall, etc.).

  • Under the direction of the HR Manager, execute store closure, conversion and voluntary exit program activities (i.e., announcements, store meetings, bumping, layoffs, severance payments and buyouts).                                                               

  • Assist with grievance investigations, including information collection, documentation review and summary of employee files. Participate in meetings with HR Managers and store operations.                            

  • Provide support in investigating and resolving HR/payroll issues (i.e., vacation, retro, rates of pay, seniority dates and time in position dates).                                                                

  • Participate in store return to work (RTW) meetings with the RTW Specialist. Identify potential modified work based on the employee’s restrictions, knowledge of the applicable collective agreement and the employee’s position.             

  • Participate in pre-screening / interviewing Assistant Manager candidates and refer resumes to HR Managers and District Managers as required.                                                                  

  • Track the movement of store management and review key differences between collective agreements where appropriate.                                                                

  • Participate in HR/LR workshop for new Assistant Managers.                                                  

  • Create and maintain external job postings for store level positions.

  • Support ad-hoc initiatives such as operational projects, Stats Canada surveys, new store openings, etc.

 

Qualifications:                                                                         

  • Post Secondary studies (i.e., Degree, Diploma or Certificate)                                                  

  • 3 – 5 years work experience, HR/LR preferred                                                             

  • Experience in a unionized environment                                                           

  • CHRP or CHRL an asset                                                                  

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and priority management           

  • Highly client-focused and effective at building relationships                                                   

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office                                                              

  • Knowledge of SAP an asset                                                           

  • Periodic travel required                                                                 

                                          

Relationships

Internally, this position has daily contact with HR Managers, store operations, Health & Safety and Payroll on a variety of issues. They also connect with union representatives external to Metro.
