Director of Human Resources

Reporting to the Executive Vice-President, the Director of Human Resources will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that align with the overall business strategy and increase employee satisfaction. The successful candidate will bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, or other issues. Additionally, they will work closely with the Company’s executives to understand the organization’s culture and manage activities such as job design, recruitment and retention, employee relations, performance management, organizational structure, HR planning and strategy, compensation, training and organizational development, health and safety, and talent management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review recruitment plan, establish strategic timeline for resources, provide oversight for the approval/denial of requested resources.
  • Manage an effective hiring process including but not limited to reviewing applicants before hire, approving contracts/salaries, participating in interviews for high level positions, approving background check, and providing oversight of the review of new hire paperwork.
  • Develop employee retention strategies and measure ongoing effectiveness
  • Manage and create a corporate onboarding plan for all positions within the organization. This includes supporting Connexall solution training in an effective and expedited manner.
  • Develop total compensation benchmarking model.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of a training program for current employees to develop business and technical skills.
  • Review and recommend training programs and materials to assist employees in achieving their talent development goals.
  • Create a talent succession plan for the Company outlining the steps within the organization, competencies required, trainings required, and review and approve any applications for internal movement.
  • Evaluate, formulate, and approve new HR policies, procedures, guidelines, and structures and own the Corporate Policy Manual.
  • Devise, approve, and measure effectiveness of strategies to motivate employees and enhance the organization’s culture.
  • Develop an ongoing leadership coaching model to enhance the management teams competencies.
  • Review employee grievances and investigations, determining resolutions and escalating or conducting further investigations if necessary.
  • Advise managers and participate in employee discipline.
  • Develop learning management plan framework.
  • Oversee offboarding processes; advise managers and take part in terminations, analyze turnover, and develop plans to improve employee retention.
  • Review exit interview information and formulate and implement organizational changes to improve retention.
  • Develop and implement a performance management and performance evaluation process by creating a standardized process for approving salary increases, discretionary bonuses, and role changes.
  • Manage and control all employee files ensuring they are up to date, confidential, and approve requests to see them.
  • Manage organizational chart, job titles, job descriptions, vacation schedules, and salary bands.
  • Analyze HR metrics, prepare reports and strategic initiatives based on data, measure improvement and achievement based on goals.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
  • Master’s degree, PhD, or MBA in relevant field preferred.
  • CHRL or CHRE considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience required.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience required.
  • Experience in a technical or software company preferred.
  • Healthcare experience or knowledge considered an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of labour law and HR best practices.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with a proven track record of building, motivating, and managing geographically diverse, high-performing, teams.
  • Excellent communication skills; written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to understand the organizational structure, culture, and best practices to grow a company in the software industry.
  • Experience creating organizational charts, reports, and other documents.
  • Generalized knowledge of HR systems and databases; must provide oversight of and direction for web-based and other recruiting strategies, which may include online job posting boards.
  • Demonstrable experience with HR metrics; ability to effectively analyze numerical data, draw logical inferences and provide reasonable recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately and thoroughly monitor work for quality and ensuring standard specifications are met.
  • Able to manage time effectively while overseeing a high volume of work by prioritizing and planning work activities.
  • Ability to multitask; must be able to manage a team, produce results, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and active listening skills with the ability to facilitate conflict resolution.
  • Ability to facilitate conflict resolution and to teach conflict resolution techniques to other departmental managers.
  • Creative and adaptable with strong execution abilities.
  • Ability to coordinate and work cross-functionally for the betterment of the Company.
  • Must be trustworthy with a strong sense of ethics due to nature of work and exposure to confidential information.
