POSITION SUMMARY:

 

As a member of the HR team, the Human Resources Generalist provides key support in the various human resources functions which may include recruitment and selection, health and safety, learning and development and human resources administration. They assist with recruitment and selection activities including preparing postings, screening applicants and coordinating interviews; they process HR transactions, prepare documentation and update the HRIS and employee records.

Other responsibilities may include assisting with use of HRIS functionality and improving electronic records, supporting onboarding activities for staff and students, preparing letters, and assisting with other projects as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with job posting preparation and distribution
  • Coordinate applicant tracking and screening
  • Coordinate interview preparation and schedules
  • Respond to inquiries about postings and selection activities
  • Prepare for new employees and students including preparing documentation and file set up
  • Update and maintain electronic and paper files related
  • Prepare letter and correspondence related to a variety of matters
  • Assist with employee recognition activities
  • May support health and safety activities
  • May complete and synthesize research regarding HR issue to recommend improved processes
  • Respond to day to day questions regarding HR policies and programs
  • Use HRMS (Dayforce) to retrieve data and reports
  • Assist with using additional HRMS functionality to streamline or automate processes
  • Track and follow up on submission of documents to HR
  • Maintain employee files including performing auditing as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Organizational Responsibilities:

 

  • Establishes and cultivates positive working relationships with community partners, clients, staff, and management. 
  • Actively serves on internal and external committees, work groups, etc. for HPEPH as assigned, and participates in the development of operational plans, as requested.
  • Models, supports, and endorses Ontario Public Health / HPEPH values and change initiatives.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the HPEPH mission and values and acts as an ambassador for HPEPH when in contact with the public and other agencies.
  • Where appropriate, identifies risk and implements risk mitigation strategies.
  • Utilizes the structure of evidence-informed decision making (EIDM) throughout their decision-making process.
  • Follows all applicable HPEPH, Ontario Public Health, legislation, and professional standards.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing own professional development plan in consultation with their manager/supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Diploma in Human Resources Management (HRM) or related post-secondary education
  • Pursuing human resources designation (CHRP/CHRL) considered an asset

Experience

  • At least 2 years of recent related human resources experience
  • Previous public sector experience considered an asset
  • Experience working in a unionized setting is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong team player combined with commitment to continuous learning
  • Knowledge of HR concepts and programs, along with related legislation
  • Demonstrates good judgement and understanding of confidentiality and privacy
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a busy environment
  • Strong computer proficiency including with MS Office (Word & Excel) and email
  • Knowledge of HR information systems is preferred
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check
  • Valid Ontario drivers licence and access to a vehicle

Working Conditions:                       

Work with internal and external contacts. May spend extended periods working on computer screen.

Standard hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
