Summary: The Manager guides and manages the administration of human resources policies, procedures and programs; and is responsible for the following functional areas: Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) and payroll, employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, talent management and ensuring we are a great place to work.

Key Responsibilities:

Compensation, Benefits and Payroll

  • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll for hourly, salary and commission employees
  • Maintain records and track vacation time, paid emergency time, banked time
  • Prepare payroll month end reports and post to ERP system
  • Maintain employee records/files (in HRIS and/or hard copy)
  • Year end payroll administration (T4s, annual returns)
  • Administer company benefit plans
  • Calculate and prepare bonus/commission statements

Training and Development

  • New hire orientation/on-boarding, development and training
  • Performance management and improvement

Recruiting

  • Establish and lead the recruiting and hiring process, publishing job postings, screening resumes and conducting 1st interviews to identity most qualified candidates
  • Serves on selection committees as required

Government Legislation

  • Maintain WSIB files and accident reports
  • Administration of contractor WSIB and insurance
  • Leads company compliance with all government labour, payroll laws/changes regarding compensation, AODA, JHS, MHW, WSIB and ensures the company handbook is current

Organizational Development

  • Develop and monitor an annual budget for employee recognition, benefits, social events
  • Employee social events co-ordinator, lead the company social committee
  • JHSC Member focusing on safety, welfare, wellness and health
  • Conducts investigations regarding employee complaints or concerns
  • Maintain and recommend the company wage and salary structure and pay policies
  • Lead competitive market research to establish pay practices
  • Provide administrative support to management team members (Cosmo and Launch).
  • Share and support our customer experience philosophy throughout the company.
  • Share and communicate the value of corporate social responsibility to employees and the community; celebrate successes throughout the company through recognition programs etc.

Key Deliverables in the first 6 months:

To support the organization in its continued growth and evolution, our HR/Payroll technology infrastructure is targeted for updating.  This individual will be working closely with the COO and HR/Payroll resources available to them in managing this process.  So having a good understanding of payroll and HR will be important along with a technical aptitude.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge in employment/labour laws, compensation, organizational planning, recruitment, training, employee relations, safety and wellness
  • Prior hands on experience in payroll processing (salary and hourly) and knowledge of accounting interface.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of general accounting
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience with administering employee benefit and compensation programs
  • Excellent organizational management skills
  • Evidence of the practice of high level of confidentiality
  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in Business Administration/Human Resource Management or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years human resources experience
