The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing support/advice in all HR functional areas to employees in an assigned client group. This position also acts as a specialist and a resource to the HR and management teams in the area of Job Evaluation and Pay Equity Administration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guides hiring managers on the application of recruitment policies and procedures, relevant laws and regulations and the interpretation of hiring provisions in the Collective Agreement;
  • Enrolls, processes changes, and terminates employees from the Group Medical and Dental benefit plans, pooled benefits plans (life insurance and LTD) and relevant Pension Plan;
  • Sets-up new hires into the HRIS and supports employees with Dayforce inquiries and issues
  • Provides support to managers and employees on the interpretation and administration of the Collective Agreement;
  • Attends monthly Joint Job Classification Committee (JJCC) meetings and participates in job evaluations for bargaining unit, sessional and relief positions
  • Maintains pay equity in collaboration with the Manager of Human Resources

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through completion of an Undergraduate degree in Human Resources Management/Business Administration (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
  • 3 to 5 years directly related work experience;
  • Working knowledge of employment legislation required e.g. ESA, OLRA, AODA, Occupational Health and Safety;
  • Experience working within a unionized environment;
  • Must possess excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge in Word and Excel;
  • Knowledge and experience working with a HRIS (Dayforce HCM an asset);
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Must exercise good judgement in handling confidential information;
  • Ability to work with a range of people within a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrates awareness of issues affecting women and girls.
