Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Corporate Services (CFO), the Director of Human Resources is responsible  for providing organizational direction, consultation and leadership to the Hospital in the areas of talent acquisition, labour relations, collective bargaining,  employee relations, pay equity, classification, organizational health and WSIB programs, short and long term disability management, workplace accommodation,  absence management, salary and benefits administration, payroll functions, reward and recognition programs, central staffing and scheduling, volunteers, performance management, succession planning, conflict resolutions and health surveillance programs.

Key Functions:

  • Provides overall direction and leadership in the development, delivery, monitoring, evaluation and continuous quality improvement of services and programs, which respond to the labour relations and health and wellness needs of the organization. 
  • Provides overall direction in the definition, preparation, resourcing, monitoring and evaluation of the organization’s strategic goals for the functional areas in Human Resources.
  • Provides overall direction and leadership in developing leadership competencies for the organization including identifying and participating in selection and delivery of sessions and courses to address gaps.
  • Responsible for the hiring, orientation, transfer, performance evaluation, staff engagement, motivation, mentoring, discipline and termination of assigned staff. 
  • Manages complex employee situations to ensure optimal outcome for employees and to minimize the risk and financial liability of the hospital.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in related field such as Commerce, Human Resources, Business Administration and/or Labour Relations and significant training relevant to the execution of this role
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements
  • CHRP, CHRL, and CHRE designations preferred
  • A minimum of ten (10) years progressive experience in a human resources environment combined with at least three (3) to five (5) years in management /leadership role.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment in a labour relations capacity
  • Significant experience developing, implementing and maintaining policies, procedures and practices related to the HR portfolio
  • Knowledge of applicable provincial legislation and its application including: Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Code, OHA Communicable Diseases Protocol, Ontario Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act, Employment Standards Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
  • Superior interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills 
  • Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in various computer applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital 
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
