We are the Ontario Energy Board - Ontario's independent energy regulator.  We work to ensure a sustainable, reliable energy sector that helps consumers get value from their natural gas and electricity services – for today and tomorrow.

We are currently seeking a collaborative individual to join our team as an Senior Human Resources Business Partner in the Human Resources department.  In this role, you will be responsible to deliver high quality, effective and consistent HR consultation and support aligned to business objectives and corporate strategies.  Under the direction of the Manager, Human Resources, the SrHRBP is an advisor on, employee and labour relations issues and concerns to designated departments.  Working collaboratively with management and the broader HR team as required, the SrHRBP develops and implements appropriate solutions to meet client needs.  In addition, this role is responsible for the day-to-day administration and/or interpretation of HR policies, processes, programs, and practices as well as collective agreement terms and conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Advises management on the administration and appropriate application of HR policies, procedures and standards as well as applicable legislation/regulations (e.g. Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act)
  • Acts as an internal consultant by analyzing and recommending solutions to a variety of human resources and labour relations issues based on an understanding of client’s business goals, objectives and operating environment
  • Partner with recruiter and the business units to develop proactive strategies to attract key talent, as well as retain and develop high potential and high performing colleagues, ensuring the right people are in the right job for succession planning, current and future business needs
  • Plans and coordinates the effective implementation of key HR programs and initiatives for the assigned department
  • Works with management to develop and update job descriptions and participates in the job evaluation process
  • Partners with business leaders and HR team members to identify opportunities for continuous improvement; identifying opportunities to enhance the employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle;
  • Builds strong relationships with the department’s management team and is seen as a trusted advisor
  • Provides coaching and guidance to managers/supervisors in resolving people issues and about people management practices; provides advice to management regarding sensitive issues
  • Delivers training seminars to staff as required, e.g. new policies/procedures
  • Identify learning and development needs with managers to develop educational material, and to facilitate training sessions. Build programs and identify resources to support employee development

Qualifications:

  • Degree from a recognized university with specialization in Human Resources
  • Knowledge of HR concepts, policies and practices acquired through formal academic training and/or relevant years of experience in a HR generalist capacity
  • 5+ years of progressive human resources experience
  • 5+ years of strategic human resources experience as a SrHRBP
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in unionized work environments
  • Demonstrated business literacy and consulting skills with demonstrated ability to persuade/influence business leaders
  • Superior knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation, acts and regulations as well as employee and labour relations trends and issues
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and analytical skills
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven experience working with leaders as a trusted and credible coach/advisor
  • Strong organizational skills; exceptional attention to detail and follow through.  Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and contribute in a collaborative work environment.
  • Solid computer skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint required
  • Experience and solid understanding working with HRIS systems. Experience with Dayforce and Success Factors is an asset;
