The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for liaising with Kumon North America, Inc. (KNA) HR Management teams to ensure consistency and alignment in achieving KNA’s mission, vision and objectives. The HRBP is solely responsible for overseeing daily matters related to the Human Resources function of Kumon Canada Inc. and is responsible for operational areas, including, but not limited to organizational development, recruitment and retention, employment law, performance management, employee relations, and the administration of payroll, compensation and benefits. 

Job Responsibilities: 

Within the Kumon North America framework: 

  • Solely responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources function in Canada
  • Drives performance management and compensation processes 
  • Develops, proposes, implements, and evaluates human resources policies and procedures, in accordance with applicable national and provincial laws and local best practices 
  • Develops and delivers associate and management training on Human Resources-related topics
  • Manages administration of benefit programs, including paid time off, professional development, health and welfare benefits, short- and long-term disability leaves, retirement savings programs and all other employee benefit programs 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Provides feedback to management concerning morale, motivation and risk issues 
  • Manages health and safety requirements and programs in accordance with the law and company standards 
  • Coordinates office administration and facilities issues and activities
  • Conducts interviews for potential hires and exit interviews for terminating employees 
  • Participates in HR-related projects aimed at realizing continuous improvement within the organization
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skill Set:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required 
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience; HR supervisory experience is preferred 
  • Professional level certification preferred 
  • Strong leadership, coaching and partnering capability combined with demonstrated ability to influence and build credibility 
  • Experience working across the various HR disciplines including compensation, recruitment, employee relations, organizational development, talent management and diversity and inclusion 
  • Working knowledge of quality improvement, change management, strategic planning, organizational assessment, and leadership development 
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
