National Human Resources Manager – Charton Hobbs Group

The Charton Hobbs Group of Companies comprising of Charton Hobbs, Authentic Wine & Spirits Merchants, and Escalade Wines & Spirits, is Canada’s largest privately owned importer of Wine and Spirits. Founded in 1925 the company is fast approaching its centennial and is growing rapidly with more than 250 employees across Canada. The National HR manager is responsible for all HR matters, policies and projects.   This management position is based in the Mississauga office.  Ideally the candidate is fluent English/French, however all English only candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage the effective operation of HR encompassing all of offices across the country;
  • Responsible for supervision of the recruitment process which includes talents sourcing, interviewing, selection, employment contracts, offer negotiation, onboarding and administration of hires, and the occasional use of external recruiters;
  • The Manager will be responsible for the resolution of HR issues, discipline, and terminations, and will be expected to be an expert for all employee benefit related queries (Canada Life) coordinating benefits administration, as well as retirement plans, and managing disability files (short and long term disability) and claims;
  • The Manager will have extensive experience using a HRIS information system (INFOHR) and is responsible for managing all employment  information including processing new employees, work history, vacation requests, and is our data bank of all our employees employment data including  position, payroll history, education, vacation, and performance records;
  • Creating and updating company HR policy directives, updating forms and procedures, developing employee reports and overseeing the company’s HR SharePoint site.  The manager will be responsible for the effective deployment of employee development related programs such as the Diversity, Inclusion and Unconscious Bias training using our contracted supplier (Canadian Centre of Diversity and Inclusion).The manager will participate in company projects as required, occasional travel within Canada will be required. 
  • The manager will be responsible to provide timely & informed communication to employees regarding company policies or positions using SharePoint and direct communications;
  • The manager will stay current and informed of all innovations in HR and will work within the legal parameters of the labour laws across the country, and will only employ methods that are  legal and current within the best practices in our industry.

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have a diploma or degree in HR or an otherwise relevant field.
  • 4 to 7 years of HR experience - preferably with companies of more than 100 employees.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft 365, TEAMS and SharePoint.
  • You have a strong foundation of knowledge of multiple provincial employment standards and have experienced all aspects of discipline, recruiting, hiring and terminations.
  • Excellent bilingual French/English (written and spoken) is a definite asset.
