Who we need 

Reporting to the VP, Human Resources, we are adding a Compensation and Total Rewards Consultant to the team in Toronto. You will advise on the best practices for total reward processes and policies; and lead the optimization, enhancement, and administration of our compensation and benefits programs in Canada. You will be both hands-on and strategic, conducting market research, managing and analyzing data, evaluating compensation, and conducting surveys. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to devise new and existing total reward programs and implement changes where necessary is a main responsibility for the role.

What you will do

  • Act as an internal consultant. You will develop a deep understanding of the organization to provide subject matter expertise on questions relating to Total Rewards, compensation, job evaluation, market analysis, and position maintenance. Continue the development of our Total Rewards programs. You will build out the roadmap and help design, deliver, and optimize Human Resource initiatives related to the Total Rewards framework, including enhancing the current employee recognition program and creating a new rewards program. Spearhead the compensation review process. You will:
    • Lead the annual review process of compensation. Provide advice on broad-based and executive compensation matters.  Assess market competitiveness and recommend a course of action, as required. Lead the review and evaluation of existing compensation plans and programs. Support the delivery of new compensation-related initiatives. Analyze survey data for all position levels, provide recommendations, identify areas of risk or concern, and prepare salary survey data for both scheduled and ad hoc surveys. Conduct job evaluations and provide recommendations for levelling and succession planning. Deliver compensation recommendations to support recruitment and promotion efforts considering internal equity and external competitive pay practices.
    Optimize reporting. You will:
    • Perform ad-hoc data audits of Dayforce on compensation data and reconciliations to ensure data accuracy and completeness. Develop, maintain, prepare and analyze compensation-related reports. Manage the Job Profile/Position library. Develop compensation recommendations for new job requisitions.
    Support Benefits projects. You will:
    • Support the administration of our Canadian benefits plan. Manage and troubleshoot the relationship with the Benefits provider, and conduct an annual evaluation with recommendations. Participate in ad-hoc projects, including research and analysis of data and preparation of presentations and reports. Support benefits administration and Pay Equity reporting.  Support administrative activities related to various initiatives such as acquisitions and benefits renewals.
    Roll out rewards, recognition, and employee engagement programs. You will: 
    • Continue to develop Canadian Premier’s Employee Value Proposition by conducting research and developing and implementing recommendations that align reward structures to best practices and company values. Lead pulse and annual engagement surveys by analyzing results and developing recommendations and action plans in collaboration with the HR team.

What you bring

  • The education. You have a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.  The Human Resources experience. You have 4 + years of experience, including 3 years specifically working in Total Rewards or Compensation. You have a comprehensive understanding of compensation and benefits programs, principles, and practices. You are well-versed in related legislative rules and regulations (e.g., Employment Standards, Pay Equity Legislation). You can maintain a high level of integrity in handling confidential and sensitive information. You have in-depth knowledge of the compensation cycles, including salary administration, surveys, market analysis, structure development, and incentive design. The technical skills. You have intermediate Excel skills; proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; intermediate knowledge of an HRIS (Dayforce would be beneficial). The collaborative and communication skills. You can build relationships with internal stakeholders to work collaboratively. You have excellent written, oral, and presentation skills, and you can communicate information and recommendations based on your target audience. You are client-focused with keen attention to detail and the ability to translate requirements into action.  The innovative problem-solving skills. You have a highly analytical approach to developing recommendations, collecting, extracting, analyzing, and manipulating large data sets. You can provide both commercial and creative solutions to local total reward requirements. You can work under tight deadlines and understand the downstream and long-term effects of your work and accuracy. The accountability and collaboration. You bring a balance of strategic planning and immediate action and can apply a big picture lens in a small team environment. You take ownership of your work and its impact on the organization. You have exceptional decision-making skills, guided by your business acumen and analytical approach. You can seamlessly adapt to changes in priorities, the business, or the industry. You have the confidence to take new ideas forward and to work closely with executive leaders and board directors, acting as a subject matter and discipline expert.
