The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) strives to make the investment markets benefit the public – enabling people to achieve their financial goals, enterprises to grow, and British Columbia to thrive. Through smart rules, diligent oversight, strong enforcement, and reliable guidance, it acts as guardian of the province’s investment marketplace, striving to make BC a place where people can invest with confidence and companies can flourish.

A self-funded Crown corporation, BCSC benefits the public by protecting investors and the integrity of BC’s capital markets. It is accountable to the provincial legislature and the public through the Minister of Finance and its operations are funded through fees paid by securities market participants under the Securities Act.

The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) directs the strategic and daily operations of the Human Resources department and provides expert human resources advice, leadership, support, and direction to all staff.  As a member of the Senior Management Committee, the CHRO works with executive and senior management to support the operations of the Commission including the development of goals, objectives, and performance.  The CHRO works closely with the executive and Human Resources Committee (HRC) of the Board in all human resources policy matters.

The CHRO will be sharply focused on providing strategic leadership across all HR functional areas including leadership and organizational development, total compensation, employee engagement, health and wellness, and diversity and inclusion. The position develops strategies to enhance and foster a healthy, purpose-driven corporate culture and works diligently to deliver results, while being engaged and passionate around the industry leading work that BCSC is undertaking.

An experienced HR leader with demonstrated strength in compensation and organizational development, the ideal candidate will be recognized as a collaborative, nimble, humble, and engaging ‘people-centric’ professional who conveys confidence that HR is attentive and service-focused. The CHRO will be a critical thinker who has demonstrated success building solid relationships across all levels of an organization. They will display a track record of progressively senior leadership roles and an understanding of working within the public sector, while simultaneously demonstrating the wisdom and maturity to deal tactfully with difficult situations as and when they arise.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience culminating in senior management/leadership position(s) and be able to effectively act as a strategic partner to BCSC’s Senior Management Committee and the HRC. A CPHR designation and an undergraduate degree in a related discipline is required; experience in both unionized and non-unionized work environments is desirable.

BCSC offers a challenging and rewarding work environment and a competitive compensation package that includes a defined benefit pension plan and four weeks of annual vacation.

Investment restrictions apply. BCSC is an equal opportunity merit-based employer. It adopted a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that went into effect on November 1, 2021.
