Due to business growth, we are seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President Human Resources. Our client is a growth oriented Canadian organization with eminence in the healthcare sector with niche-based recognition in all facets of supply chain excellence. The organization has a sound business model dedicated to delivering exceptional healthcare services and products to end-patients via member organizations. This role will be attractive to candidates who are looking to make an impact in a Canadian healthcare organization that is growing with eminence in the healthcare sector. This provides HR strategic leadership and is an integral member of the executive team. The VP HR will help drive human resources initiatives to the next progressive level for the company. Will play a key role in corporate integration initiatives requiring both HR and overall business acumen. The role will be based in Burlington.

Overview of Role

Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President, Human Resources is an integral member of the organization’s executive team, providing expert strategic advice on all people-related matters. An open and effective communicator, the Vice President, Human Resources will continue the ongoing development and implementation of HR strategies and programs.

The Vice President, Human Resources provides strategic leadership by articulating HR needs and plans to the executive management team and the board of directors in the context of applicable legislative and regulatory requirements. This role will lead a direct HR team, the role is responsible for talent management including recruitment and retention, organizational and performance management, compensation, benefits strategy & implementation, equity, diversity & inclusion and culture, payroll, as well as employee and labour relations. This role will be an HR leader with strategic vision who will also be proactive around support and measures for change, including the development of organizational and leadership development programs. This person will also drive and implement HR operations road maps.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have ideally gained experience from a similar mid-sized, complex organization with various lines of business. Experience preferably gained from a complex organization: a track record for advocating for advanced human resources imperatives and a people-oriented culture committed to excellence in HR practices, or a company possessing a progressive HR team. Proven ability to manage an internal HR team for peak performance and change initiatives. Experience can be gained from various economic sectors, including private as well as government and other analogous environments where potential candidates can port relevant experience and skills to the role. Expertise gained in a healthcare, shared services, or a not-for-profit environment, along with post integration experience would be considered a distinct asset. This candidate will have a strong customer and patient centric focus and a service orientation, with an ability to build and maintain relationships with the executive team, management, and other internal and external stakeholders. Ability to lead change management of HR initiatives as well as creating synergies and best practices.

The successful candidate must take a strategic and proactive approach to developing and implementing high quality HR initiatives across the organization. Will be a change-oriented leader and can motivate through positive example and to work with people at all levels within the organization to accomplish goals. Must have exceptionally strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to quickly establish a rapport at all levels.

Key Skills & Qualifications Candidates must have a blend of expertise outlined in the candidate profile and will include all, or a good portion, of the following:

  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in human resources, which will include 8-10 years of progressive leadership positions within human resources, including 5 years in a senior HR role.
  • Expertise in agile human capital strategies, organizational development, change management and communications.
  • A well-rounded HR leader and visionary with demonstrated experience across various all areas of HR including Talent Management, Organizational Development, Performance Management Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Compensation & Total Rewards, Recruitment & Employee Retention, Training and Development. Experience in Employee and Labour Relations (as well as unionized experience) is considered an asset.
  • Significant expertise in developing and implementing advanced talent management strategies in sourcing, attraction, recruitment, and retention of talent. Strategic expertise at linking short-term and long-term business needs to overall talent acquisition and retention.
  • Expertise in compensation & benefits design and implementation, including executive compensation.
  • Experience in people/leadership development; a strong coach with leadership teams, high potentials, and managers on dealing with HR issues.
  • Will have operated as a business partner to the CEO and Executive team. Experience interacting with a Board of Directors is a distinct asset.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain reporting tools and techniques to capture and distribute meaningful data and metrics related to HR and preparing dashboard and materials for the board, as well as managing for more effective results measured against ROI.
  • Experienced with integrating organizations and corporate cultures gained within customer centric organizations. Must have a strong customer service orientation.
  • Will have a collaborative approach paired with strong relationship management skills.
  • Comfortable with challenging the status quo to drive the businesses forward.
  • Credibility and integrity to act as a trusted Leadership HR Advisor and demonstrated skills to influence and align with business strategy.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in all human resources disciplines and the ability to effectively enable communications to all levels of an organization, including delivering clear and concise communications on HR policies and processes.
  • Acts as a key leader in managing strategies to promote employee engagement, performance management, leadership development, skills and competency frameworks, retention programs and succession management.
  • Ability to manage and influence across all levels of an organization to drive efficiencies and productivity within the HR organization and with internal client stakeholders. Develop the need for change, influence and manage pivotal relationships at all levels throughout the organization.
  • Help drive the annual processes for performance management and talent review.
  • Prior experience in refining HR technology tools or HR systems.
  • Knowledge and practical use of organizational design and change management methodologies and activities.
  • Familiar with relevant computer programs. A user of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ADP. Knowledge of other related HR and recruitment systems and tools is considered a strong asset.
  • HR experience should be coupled with strong (financial) analytical acumen along with operational insight.
  • Academic foundation will include a bachelor’s degree in human resource management or related field. Master’s degree is an asset.
